I get 160 miles out of 12 litres on a 22litre tank and it wont take anymore than 12litres. It seems the level sensor is either faulty or they arent calibrated very well or indeed dont sense very well after a while. I tells fibs to me because it comes up saying theres only 5 litres left and it drops down to 3.5 litres. I switch off the car and come back a little later and then Ive still got 5 litres left lol When I actually bother to fill it up it will only take 13-14 litres so theres still supposedly another 8litres left in it! Frustrating or what! Like the 22litre tank isnt small enough! lol
Seriously, pretty much every smart on the road has about 3-4 litres of fuel left when it displays "0" litres remaining.

Like pretty much every car on the market - the smart fuel display is calibrated so you should never run out.
Seriously, pretty much every smart on the road has about 3-4 litres of fuel left when it displays "0" litres remaining. So I can at least run it to 1 litre. I get paranoid and head to the nearest fuel station not long after it starts complaining about 5 litres remaining.

Well still haven't had the bottle to run past 30 litres, I know there is 33 litres in there but it starts beeping after 27 to 27.5 litres have been used and I avoid buying fuel in central London because it's too dear
Wednesday I filled up, drove into London and after lunch I drove to Kettering, two adults with six resus annie's in the boot (yes it was tight fit but i jammed then bitches in). Did 80/85mph (90mph on the clock) with the air con on most of the way there, then booted it home to Luton at 12:20am. Did the normal 120 mile daily to commute to London with the air con all the way back and filled up last night.
I was expecting a very poor mpg figure significant worse than the 75.20mpg previously recorded, but was amazed with an average of 77.23mpg

Well two things happened in the last 24 hours towards my 100mpg quest, firstly I filled up last night when I got home (why oh why couldn't they add another two gallons to the tank size) and today's journey into central London was aced, not only there but back again (probably get a 3 hour delay tomorrow). The traffic flowed well and I managed to keep enough distance between the cars in front, without anyone cutting into the gap to nearly avoid all braking (slowing down is the one thing that the stupid gearbox does well).Got quite a few of the traffic lights on green and the M25 and M11 were both flowing well. The only fly in the ointment was the 40mph limit as I rejoined the M1 on the way home. But as you can see from the picture this occurred only 0.2 litres from a gallon.
So 4.54 litres ( 1 Gallon ) of Asda's finest diesel got me got me 97.7 miles
Is 100mpg possible, yes on a steady run without any hold up's, but I doubt it's gonna happen on my daily commute into London.
NB : It takes me 16 minutes longer to hypermile into London than keeping up with the big boys, uses less fuel, less engine wear, less brake wear and relives the boredomLast edited by longdistancecdi; 20-05-14, 07:01 PM.
