  • Remap on 54bhp cdi

Does anyone know what kind of difference a remap makes performance wise to say the 0-60 on the cdi. It obviously starts at I think 16.4 to 62 ... what sort of figures does it come down to - has anyone done any testing ?

My wife is looking to take mine over at some stage and 'retire' her 84bhp passion but she finds mine way too slow. I find it OK ... but having just driven her 59k mile 84bhp petrol vs my 3k mile diesel I see what she means lol !!

I know people say the remap makes quite a difference - just wondered if anyone has timed one ... I didn't buy it for the speed but she is more demanding of it ! I have another car that is 6 to 60 so the Smart being slow matters not to me as it is for commutes and is great

I own remapped 45bhp CDi and an "84bhp" pulse turbo. Even a remapped CDI is sluggish in comparison.

      Re: Remap on 54bhp cdi

People who buy the Cdi are more into fuel saving, rather than speed.

We talk about trying to get over 80 MPG, rather than 0 to 60 in how many seconds....

And how fast is a Cdi?......As long as we get there efficiently, who cares

So don't be mean, trade in and treat your wife to a new Petrol Turbo, if she wants to retain a faster Fortwo, and I bet she will get to the local Tesco shop and back, five seconds faster without the icecream melting

EDIT: Mmmmh..I fancy an icecream now, (heads to fridge)

I am looking at remapping my CDi , takes about 3 seconds off the 0 - 60mph

Aren't remapped Diesels all about the 'in gear' performance rather than the 'through the gears' performance that sprinting to 60mph from rest demands?

In that context, according to those who have had their Diesels remapped (see posts from Duncan E) the extra torque allows them to stay in gear where otherwise a downshift would be required - thus improving mpg.

              Re: Remap on 54bhp cdi

I'm going to be getting my 451 CDI remapped in the next few weeks, but I'm not looking for a massive reduction in 0-62, it will be more for torque and therefore less gear changing.

Then I'm driving it down to the South of France, I must be mad.

Sorry, saying 0-60 was not a good way to represent what I was after ... I want it to be more driveable and thus the extra torque will indeed be the main benefit.

If it can hold a gear rather than changing down and revving higher as a result it will make it better.

I will prob get it done but it is more when ...

From memory that was what everyone reported as the result after remapping a CDI.
Duncan-E had his (45hp) done a few years back and wrote extensively about it.
Search for him as a member and there should be a link to his own website where there's details.

I mapped that car and driveability is what he wanted along with 90+ mpg

can the map be tailored to go either way or is the better mpg just a benefit from the increased torque?

what was his final bhp and torque?

There is no doubt that tuning the CDi does make it more responsive and will improve your mpg it will not be a race car but will drive better.
There is always the cost question..do you want a more enjoyable drive or use the money for the remap on buying fuel for the car?
To help you decide you really need to go somewhere where you can test the programs so that you have an understanding of the results and be able to make an informed decision.

Remapping is illegal tampering with engine emission control systems and should be punished by castration to ensure remappers can't multiply.
Diesel remaps only make more black smoke. No good if you have a particulate filter. I prefer hanging on to my balls and keeping mine standard.

                              really??

the forfour cdi came from the factory with 2 different maps - both outputting the same co2 (in the trial lab test)

and MANY car manufacturers sell after market OEM plug in maps.

the porsche 918 spyder puts out even less co2 than your cdi but does 200+ mph - is that better??

without mappers, engine efficiencies will never increase
