Urgent - Safety Recall

Anyone else had a recall notice from Smart regarding the possibility of the electronic heater shutoff valve malfunctioning. My car is 2012 84hp turbo model?

Me too. 2011 Brabus 102, seems to be worldwide recall, China and Australia recalling. What is the faulty part? Where is the part and is the fault a dangerous one?

Just had a look and there are 2 control valves on the car both attached to the heater unit in the car cabin, one goes onto the in and out pipes and the other goes at the top of the heater unit in the drivers side (right hand drive car), I think it may be the one at the top as the description says electronic valve.

If it's the one we've seen fire damaged, its the one fixed to the gearbox, burns itself to death, scorches the pipes that are attached to it and the wiring, and also takes the command wire out to the starter motor (where there is one fitted!)

They have been recalled in France as we got a letter the other day saying the same thing. So it does appear to be world wide

Yes, that's what it comes up as on epc, it is only newer cars that have them, 2010 onwards I think

The recall is also in the Netherlands .

I hope the dealers have enough stock of the new part! There must be thousands of cars in the recall.

During constant product monitoring, we have found that short circuits in the electronic heater shutoff valve may occur over an
extended period due to wear on your vehicle.

Remedial Action: Rework the electrical line for the heater shutoff valve on your vehicle as a precautionary measure.

Fortwos affected (mainly facelift 451's)......Build Dates 08/10/2010 - 19/05/2014

Mine's booked in for fix next week, no parts needed according to the dealer except for a plastic cap and some glue??

The short circuit is due to rubbing wires, not the actual valve.

It is due to poor design and manufacture.

Going by that, they must be going to offset the wiring route to stop it rubbing.
