common fault

my smart 451 has had trouble lately going into reverse gear .[ 80,000 miles ]
my independent smart repairer says its a common fault on the 451 [ actuator ] he has replaced them on 6 cars lately
some even on low milage cars ..
for peace of mind i got him to replace the clutch at same time .

actuator is £340 , with new clutch & labour was £700 ..

I hope it doesn't happen on mine...
I have one smart of the same model and had to change the egr valve lately...
Love this cars but they are expensive to repair!

Software fix is the first thing you should try on a 451 with reverse gear selection problems before changing ANY hardware
