  • should this be a recall issue .

should this be a recall issue .

when i had my 2002 smart 450 passion that had several faults , mercedes put right under thier recall scheme

now have a 2009 451 cabrio passion which since i bought it has had issues with it not going into reverse gear at times .
which several of local owners of 451,s have had the same problem .
my local independent smart repairer contacted our local mercedes dealer & they advised that i should replace the
actentuator / clutch [ at my exspence / £700 ] to cure the problem which i did with it not curing the problem.

i contacted mercedes UK in london saying as its a common problem on the 451 that it should be recall issue , they replied
that its not , but told me from day 1 there was a problem with the software regards it & they now have updated software to cure
    the problem .
they told me i will have to take it to the dealer to have the latest sofware installed at my exspence [ £75 plus ] which i feel is wrong.

You should push and push some more for a free update , it IS a fairly common 451 problem and is usually sorted with just that gearbox software update ....

Push the dealer to submit an ESKULAB claim to head office , don't give up at the first hurdle.

go back to head offfice (in writing and/or phone) and say you're not happy and you want to escalate your complaint

Recalls are only for safety related issues. If you asked smart to update everything during a service, they would.

more likely to come as a service action where the rework is carried out IF the customer complains or before the car is sold.
