  • Broken clutch actuator?

    Hi all,
My clutch was slamming when setting off or reversing so I decided to go on Evilution to see how I could possibly remedy this, I squirted lithium grease into the unit but this did not work.
So I tried loosening the bolts and setting the clutch but I've since realised this only works on 450's and 452's :-(
After realising this I popped it back on and now it doesn't work at all, I've taken it off and popped it open to have a look inside, the arm was totally loose and came off, along with some plastic ball socket thingy.
If I purchase a used one from eBay will I be able to fit this myself, I've since learned that I will probably have to take it to a garage that has an MB Star machine to get them to configure this. Any info would be great.
I'll post pictures below to help.

Your clutch actuator looks totally knackered. Main cause for failure is ingress of water. 451 clutch actuators are more prone to water ingress and failure than a 450 actuator.

Buying a new GENUINE merc one is the way forward.
Buy a used one and it might work for a few months or a few minutes. There is no guarantee with a used one

Fit a GENUINE one and fit it correctly and it will work properly within a few percent of perfect

I have owned my 2009 mhd for 2 months and the actuator went bang on me.
I've never owned a smart before but mine was constantly lunging between gear changes, but I thought this was normal.

Anyway, after removing the actuator, I opened it up and it was bone dry with the spiral shaft snapped and teeth missing.

I purchased a low mileage used one from eBay and fitted it and teached it in using diagnostics.

Since then the car drives super smoothly.
