  • heater problem

    i have a 2009 smart 451 cabrio '
have a problem regards the heat coming out my heater , sometimes its hot , then other times it blows cool .
ive flushed the system &; also checked that there is no airlocks .
i have a turbo gauge fitted which gives me different reading regard the engine & it shows my temperature as 87 which is normal engine temp after engine warms up ..
my independent smart repairer says the thermostat is working ok
myself i would like to change the thermostat as the smart as now done 95 thousand miles & they are known to stick or play up
but thats a last measure as ive been told that the thermostat is in a awkward place & you need to drop the engine ..

the smart has just passed the M.O.T ok , with one first time advisory regards a worn front engine mount which is now done ..

    thankyou all .

The 451 suffers from a dodgy 'temperature setting' control....

When it's next blowing cold when you're expecting hot , try cycling the temperature control from cold back to hot again and report back ... if it's the control at fault it will revert to hot blowing pretty much instantaneously

There is a good description of the controller fault on Evilution. Search "451 Heater Faults".
