  • Error code P1010 help please

451, 54 bhp CDI, Nov 2010, 45000 miles. Much loved and well cared for. I have recently been experiencing Safe Mode incidents, random in nature. Switch off/on corrects it. Car otherwise runs beautifully and returns 70+ mpg always. All journeys are 10 miles plus, driven briskly but not thrashed. Premium fuel always.
OBD reports error code P1010, which I think is an induction air flow fault, mass or volume air flow fault. Visual observation shows nothing amiss, air cleaner element is newish genuine Smart. Can anybody suggest possible causes please?

Whilst I've not heard of that code related to the diesel, the 54 diesel historically was beset with safe mode problems, it caused no end of trouble ... because they added EURO5 compliance with this power boost from 45 to 54.. it added a load of sensors which just added to the chance of safe mode... Too many cooks watching over it are not worth three in the bush lol
But maybe it is as simple as just the related sensor that's failed?

Yes, all a bit scary. My car was fine up until this point though so I am hoping that previous owners got the teething troubles sorted. The known problems with the emissions system return a different set of error codes I think.

Where abouts in the world are you, it might be better to take it to your local indie and get it connected to a star machine to find the fault rather than a general Mickey Mouse fault code reader which will send you round the houses and still not really find the fault

You are probably right. Will take it to Fudgesmart for diagnosis. Never hurts to check to see if anybody else had had the problem b4 though . . . .
          UK, Essex/Suffolk borders BTW

No water but took inlet piping apart the other day and fault has not reoccurred. YET. Fault is periodic. Approx every 1000 miles. Suspect regen puts something out of whack. Hopefully Fudge can find it for me. Removing DPF seems appealing.
