handbrake failure 2011 model

Had a crash yesterday when handbrake failed and car rolled forward. Does anyone have any experience of this? The car was serviced a month ago.

Can happen to any car if hand brake is not applied sufficiently hard and car is not parked in gear. Hand brake mechanism itself is pretty robust and fool proof. A problem in parts of Britain where road salt is applied regularly during winter is that the spring mechanism (sits below hand brake lever under car) can seize up causing application of hand brake harder and perhaps making parking brake less effective.
