  • Roady with Performance Clutch and Charge Cooler

    All,
Just to keep you up to speed having worked on the Bonalume clutch for the 700cc cars with success we have adapted a charge cooler from Bonalume to fit the roadster!

It is running extreamly well along with the clutch and is off to Augusto at Red Dot at the end of the week for a custom map to see what can be achieved.

As this kit has been uprated with bigger pump etc for the Roadster and takes a while to adapt and fit the retail price will be around £1500 fitted! so the gains had better be good or I am in trouble again spending development money. Plus there will be a need for a custom map to maximise the individual cars set up.

Anyway the car will be at The Cheese meet tomorrow night so talk to uncle Dave for a drive and at our BBQ at Watford on 24th June plus Smartbeat. If you want anymore info or a test drive give Dave or I a call on 01794 367878

    Thanks
    Paul

Blimey! £1,500 for a clutch and charge cooler! Has the world gone mad? That's a year's fuel bill for your car, and for what? a few more horse power.

Sorry, this kind of thing gets me ruffled.

          Green Godess
that's £650 for the clutch plus £1500 on top for the charge cooler.

This sort of mod is obviously not aimed at you, clearly each to their own, and yes we do have demand for the said item.

If you want to feel the differance come along and try it, but as they say don't knock it before you try it!

            No, you mis-read it.
£1500 for the charge cooler.... no clutch.

I like it when people comment on something they know little about.

The clutch is perfection, and should be the replacement of choice as it is only £40 more than the standard smart clutch with fitting.

The charge cooler is antisipated, will allow mapping to 120+ bhp without damage to the engine. I think 120 bhp is more than a few bhp increase over 61 bhp.

What other cars will give you that performance with the ecconomy of the smart?

Cost is a differant issue. That is personal choice and I would never tell people how to spend their dosh.

Re: Roady with Performance Clutch and Charge Cooler

Not sure if this is the place to ask, so sorry if this upsets the forum police. But:

What does the charge cooler do?
What are the alternatives and why is it better?
What kind of bang do you get for ya buck? i.e how much will the performance be improved for such a vast outlay.
What are potential effects on the engine after running it for a few years?? Does it shorten life expectancy of the engine?
                  Would fuel consumption increase?
                  Would it affect servicing?

Sorry for what may be totally lame questions but i am totally out of my depth when talking about engines and stuff.

Re: Roady with Performance Clutch and Charge Cooler

The Charge cooler actively cools the charge air coming from the turbo into the inlet manifold using basically a radiator with coolant.
Lowering the temperature of the air going into the engine effectively results in a bigger bang.
The Brabus (roadster) already has a chargecooler fitted, and there will be no detremental effect on the engine.

In retrospect, I suppose "supercalafragalisticexpialadocious" wasn't a great "safe word..."

Cheers fellas, makes sense - A lot of money but perhaps the way to go to hit that magic 120bhp mark. Maybe one day - perhaps

Re: Roady with Performance Clutch and Charge Cooler

As an owner of a Brabus Roadster Coupe , would this new charge cooler be more effective that the Brab version?
if so would the rad be interchangeable with the existing brab system?

                          Thanks

Is a Charge-Cooler and an Inter-Cooler the same thing? I'm sure the roadster has an Intercooler.

Re: Roady with Performance Clutch and Charge Cooler

                              the intercooler is air cooled.
charge cooler is liquid cooled, as explained on the other page.
