  • Can you buy Ready painted body panels from Smart?

Someone smacked into Wimple yesterday - 12 hours after he was retrieved (hopefully) leak free from the stealers, anyways they've scratched the rear bumper, broken the clip holding the rear light in and snapped some arch liner clips

The bodyshop I took him too reckons they might be able to get ready painted panels from Smart, rather than trying to spray and match mine up, plus it would only be in for a day tops. Is this the case or do they just come in primer colour from Smart?

Unfortunately the body colour panels are only available for the fortwo. Roadsters and forfours have to be painted.

Shite, I thought that was the case, looks like i'm gonna have a slightly different red rear wing then - wonderful.

Yeah I was in the car at the time, I was stopped at a junction and a guy in a Vectra drove into the rear corner, putting nasty gouges in the bumper.

I'm starting to think this effing car is jinxed!

they should get a perfect colour match on the paint.

My car's had a few panels replaced and neither smartsuits nor wbc automotive (who SoB use) failed to do a perfect match - even the tin of yellow spray paint I got from Halfords is a 100% match

We should be able to match a wing Luke, it is std Smart colour I assume??

A few hundred layers of polish might be missing from it though! lol

Billybug... you are me... only 3 months behind me

In retrospect, I suppose "supercalafragalisticexpialadocious" wasn't a great "safe word..."

Yeah its standard Spice Red, but being red experience tells me that it never quite matches

I'm taking it to the place that resprayed the Beetle, they are a Porsche and Merc specialist and have rebuilt a fair few crashed Roadies so I know they do a first class job. In fact the resprayed panel will probably be of better quality than the rest of the car!

                    Hi Luke,

Sorry to hear about all your troubles. Sometimes, like buses, they all come along together. I trust the Spikelines are still as new?

Hopefully it will all be fixed in time for you to enjoy the rest of the summer. What summer?

Yep the wheels are still perfect! Although like the rest of the car they need a clean, they now have nice EBC discs and pads sitting behind the front ones now

Just need to paint my calipers green get the damage fixed and hopefully Wimple will be all sorted (which I might do this wekend)

Hope they aren't in Swindon. Only say cos we had one repaired in the ferrari body shop there and we did £2k rectification work after as they had done a good bodge!

But if yu know them & they know it's your car it should be fine! Fingers crossed it won't take long to sort!

Yeah I know they are good, they are based in Filton just up the road from Airbus. They've just quoted £440 (inc VAT) for the work and it seems they can get painted panels as they have not quoted for any painting???

they are in for a shock when a matt black panel arrives!

is it just the rear wing? if so that sounds pricey!

                              Luke,
Sorry to hear about your bash. Becky had a similar incident on Monday morning. The cost to supply a new unpainted rear wing was quoted at about £89 i think. Paint about £100 ish if i recall correctly.

Make sure it hasnt compressed the rear crash bar under the plastic also, and check boot under carpet.
