  • Brabus Mods

Hi everyone i am considering getting my car tuned. Where do i start!!? i have looked at remaps and stuff like that but i dont know what i need to do first!?

The car i have is a smart roadster Brabus on an 04 plate! it only got 30000 miles on so the engine is just run in.

Im considering just putting odd things on when i have time. Is it worth doing!? and will it damage any thing if i do start tuning my engine! The last thing i want to do is damage my lovely car!!

I have been looking at maybe putting a bigger turbo on so i can get more boost! Will a bigger turbo help get more power out of the engine!? i have heard that a dump valve can help the turbo! is this true!?

And last question who is the best person/place to go to tune a Brabus roaster!

The car is amazing standard!! i have so much fun driving to work! i just wondering if it worth fiddling with the engine to get more power!

I notice that there is a long delay before the turbo kick in! is there anything i can do to reduce this so i can have a better pull awy from a stanstill!!?

    Re: Brabus Mods

Ok, this is what I've learnt over the last week or so:

Air induction, ensure you get either an induction kit or new filter.

Dump valve is ok if it's been modified for the smaller Smart turbo (chalky's mod?)

Re-mapps tend to be well worth the money and have been claimed to help with the speed of gear changing as well as an increase in torque, etc...

As long as the remap is a well known/trusted one then you'll be fine, and of course it's always better to service a mapped car more often!

Exhausts, I'm not sure what the Brabus exhaust is like compaired to some aftermarket ones... If you had a standard 80 roadster then i'd suggest the Janspeed Stealth as that appears to have good reviews

I'd also suggest looking on www.fq101.co.uk and http:www.evilution.co.uk - These will help a LOT when modifying your Smart!

also if your going to do all that the look at the brakes too.......

oh, and dump valves do nothing for performance

The first thing to consider is that if you've got a brabus to start with then you're pretty much at the pinnacle in terms of performance as it is.

Rather than spending money on trying to get more out of the engine the easiest / cheapest way to get more benefit out of the power you've got is to lighten the weight - strip out the carpet, fit lighter seats, fit smaller wheels.

Improving the airflow in and out will help also, more in terms of the smoothness of the drive rather than the power output - replace the exhaust with a janspeed stealth and replace the air intake / filter with a Pipercross viper or venom kit.

Most of all, try to enjoy what you've got rather than trying to persue fractional improvements that is difficult to notice on a daily basis.

IMO, this is the weakness on the Brabus, it uses the same airbox, with the same crappy sock covered filter... it starves the car of air!
change the induction, and this will help the torque at the bottom end, (and it will sound better too).

Brabus roadster remaps can be had from a number of outlets including smartarse, SW Exclusive and Big performance.

exhaust, the brabby exhaust is one of the nicest sounding exhausts available for the smart, I love it!, people have had problems with corrosion, but it's not something I have experienced and seems to be limited moreso to the fortwo brab's.
          stealths.... well :zip:

In retrospect, I suppose "supercalafragalisticexpialadocious" wasn't a great "safe word..."

I agree. But make sure the induction uses the original flow ....... NOT sucking from the floor... this is bad dirty air which will cause many problems.

                Re: Brabus Mods

I've run one for ages with no probs mate.. But I agree with Gav that it possibly puts more load on the turbo bolts...

Has done nothing but improve my car though, from experience...
