IM having problems with my warning triangle and ABS light coming on when im driving at high speeds (60+) I dont have to be braking for it to come on and it dosent come on at low speed. Its been on the cpu but no faults came up.
What shoould I check to try to get this resolved?

Do the ABS and ESP warning lights flash on and then off again, or do they stay on until you next turn off the ignition?

        Re: ABS light

ESP unit may have gone wrong....... this is very costly £££, hope you under warranty.

It could be something todo with the brake pedal switch thats gone faulty.

I had ESP unit problem within 1 hour of owning a roadster, good pdi.LOL but they replaced the whole ESP unit and it never happened again.

Be very careful driving, you now do not have ABS or Traction control!:wag:

I've had a similar problem where the ABS and ESP warning lights appeared of their own accord, without touching the brakes, while driving along at round 40-50 mph. While the lights are on, you will not have any ABS, ESP or Hill Start Assist, but they will all start working once you restart the car.

I'm fortunately under warranty and they initially replaced the brake light switch (a common fault I'm led to believe) but this just made the problem even more frequent. On my second visit, they replaced the hydraulic ABS unit and adjusted some tolerance on the brake light switch by 0.5mm and I haven't had the problem since.

As you're out of warranty, it does sound like it could be an expensive problem... how frequently does it occur?

Brake light switch was where I was going to look first. Where is it!!??

I need to try as much as I can myself first coz im getting some custom things done at the min, and thats where my money has gone!!

So your saying I was doing 120mph (it not big or clever!) with no traction control for over 250 miles!!

brake light switch is under floor - you have to remove the plastic floor panels to access it!

I've driven hundreds of thousands of miles without abs, traction control and hill start assist!
I'll see your 250 miles and raise it 340,000

not through choice - old vehicles had stop and start pedals not much else. Ah the good old days!

It is somewhere close to where the brake pedal is but under the car - you have to remove the plastic floor pan - I think you may just have to remove the front part - it is like all things from smart - just clipped on!

The brake switch is under the floor on a 4-2, but not so on a roadster.
If you look up behind the brake pedal you will see it.

thanks, how will I know if it needs replacing? will it be worn? or do I have to just put another one in?

so much to do, so little time, Iv'e just been on taking all the back apart to get the turbo out. Got to removing the crash bar then ran out of light!!

before anyone claims smart unreliability - Ive had a similar problem on two previous NON smart cars (fords), and its always been down to switch gear or ABS failure...

                            Good luck thou

it could simply be a speed sensor on the wheel causing the issue, I would get it plugged into some diagnostics before panicing
