Re: Yellow Triangle on the Dash

Bit of a strange one this as normally when this problem happens the ABS light comes on as well as the ! ESP light.

Check the ABS light bulb hasn't gone - does it come on when you turn the ignition on and then go off?

If the ABS bulb has gone then i'd guess that both the ESP lights and ABS lights are coming on so it is most likely that the brake switch under the brake pedal that needs adjusting.

If the ABS bulb is fine and it's just the ! light coming on and staying on permanently then I haven't got a clue i'm afraid - new one on me!

    Good luck

I've had this once on my car - abs and esp lights came on for no reason, no fault codes either. Stopped, switched ignition off and never had it again - done 9000 or so miles since.

I had this. The light would come on for no reason (sometimes just after starting the car). Took it to Mercedes, they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it, but afterwards it didn't have any further problems.

        It's a mystery!

          Thanks for the further thoughts.

All the bulbs are working fine, I see them all at initial switch on.

The steering wheel is original AFAIK, but it is a few degrees off proper alignment. that is it sits a little left-hand-down when driving straight. I don't know whether that is tracking adjustment or steering wheel mounting though.

Ho hum, another mystery... It is nearly service time again, so I will mention it and ask them to read the codes when it is in for that.

That could be it. Do get the fault codes read, they might give a good clue.
If an ordenary OBD reader cant find any faults a star machine can read not only the active faults but also the no longer active faults like the one we are talking about because it goes away when You turn of the ignition, just like the code generated by the faulty brake switch.

don't know why the light is coming on, but you could try taking off the battery for 30 minutes, that tends to reset a lot of things, and it might clear it.
I used to have an aftermarket exhaust on that would make the engine check light come on as the lambda sensor was in the wrong place, taking off the battery cleared it for a few hundred miles at least.
Not sure if this will help you, but it is free to try.

I'd also check your brake pads. Mine did this after the first set delaminated and once they were replaced never did it again.

I am 100% shure that problem is with brake pads. Mine show ESP light and handbrake light when i park my car on hill or if i push too long my brakes. After few sec. brake light gone but ESP stay. Simply, brake oil level is low because of worn pads causing ESP light on.

Is the brake fluid level light the red one?

OK, a set of green stuff pads, and get the codes read then.

Thanks everyone! I will post if/when I get a resolution on this one.

It happened again today, whilst sitting on a slope with the brakes on waiting to go into a car park, and no exciting driving.

I noticed that it was the brake warning light and the yellow triangle that came on first, then the brake warning light went off and the yellow triangle light stayed on. This makes me think that it is definitely the brakes that need attention.

to simply solve the lamp if it is the low level warning, top your reservoir up.

Then get the pads changed soonest etc

I take it you don't have the trip comp?
