  • Headlights stopped working.....Ahhhhhhhh

    Hi All,

I have a SMART Roadster (05 reg) and have recently had a problem with the headlights :censor:

1st one headlight stopped working, so naturally I thought it was the bulb. I then went to change the bulb and the light came back on. I had just moved the wires to get to the bulb at this point. When I next started the car the headlight was out again and after just tinckering with the bulb/wires it came back on. At this point I realised there was something a bit wrong. Next time I went to the car both lights had stopped working and there was no way to get them back on.

The Full Beam lights are both working fine.

Has anyone had a problem like this or suggest what the problem might be?

Any help would be massively appreciated!

    Simon

I don't know if there are fuses on the headlights and if so if there are separate fuses for right and left light but if there is a common fuse for the low beam it could have gone.

Fuses are separate for each of the four headlamp bulbs, and if it were a fuse then wiggling wires would not solve it.

If you'd not said that moving the wires resolved it, I would have suggested fuses or the stalk.

It may be that you have a short and the fuses have now blown, but it sounds like a wiring fault to me.

Check fuses 22 and 23 to make sure that they are OK, then trace the wiring and check for damage.

maybe the wiggling live took the fuses out?

Which is why I said I would check the fuses

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I will try the fuses and then work back from there.

This may be a stupid question but where is the best/cheapest place to buy new fuses (I am UK based)?

              Thanks again

A motor factors such as Camberley Auto Parts, Halfords will charge you a small fortune.

They are mini blade fuses that you require
