  • Loss of Power/acceleration.....PLEASE HELP ME?

While I was driving it today after i stopped at some traffic lights when I pulled away the car had lost all its poke and acceleration and it felt like I was towing a caravan as even when put foot to the floor the revs gently went up as per normal but there was no extra power and it continued to drive like this till I got home 30miles later? (I did have it remapped last year so not sure if it has anything to do with that maybe but it was still not as slow and sluggish as that pre re-map)

Anybody any ideas what has caused this?

    Cheers :thanx:

Your Accelerator pedal could have gone out of sync with the throttle...

    Try this....
    1. Switch off the ignition. (If not already!)
    2. Push accelerator pedal to floor… ALL THE WAY!!! Past the kick down part as well.. and hold it there!!
    3. Switch on the ignition, BUT DON'T START IT!!!
    4. Wait 5 seconds, then switch off!
    5. Take foot OFF pedal.
    6. Switch on again. (WITH FOOT OFF PEDAL) ( Repeat steps 1. to 6. to make sure the throttle has moved!, but no more than 2 or 3 times )
    7. Now you can start engine.
    8. Try it out!!

    Hope this helps..

Just sounds like safe mode to me?

If you put 'safe mode' into advanced search limiting it to the roadster forum , you'll find a few threads

If the 'fault' is still present, could be as simple as a missing wastegate actuator eclip

Either it's safe mode. Or the e-clip has fallen off your actuator arm on the turbo. Is the engine light on?

As Trouble suggests, it sounds like the car has gone into safe mode. Depending on the remap, some environmental factors can sometimes cause a remap to trip the into safe mode.

Try Cpt-Jack's method first. If no joy, disconnect the battery for 10 mins and reconnect. If the car works fine then it had switched into safe mode. It will probably be a good idea to get any fault codes read to find the cause of the problem.

You can also look at the wastegate actuator e-clip as Trouble also mentioned. These have a tendancy to rust though and the wastegate actuator arm pings off. Attached is what you need to look for.

Let us know how you get on! :goodlk:

Both my for2 and my roadster have done similar things, both times i have found it to be the wastegate actuator arm coming loose due to the circlip breaking.

I picked up a bulk pack of circlips from ebay for next to nothing, it takes about 10 mins to fit and back on the road in no time.

Re: Loss of Power/acceleration.....PLEASE HELP ME (new dilema update)?

I took my smart roadster to the smart garage to ask them to look at the loss of power problem, they have since rang me back saying there is a fault with it after they spent 45mins doing diagnostix on it (sorry if I am vague here with details but not got a clue about cars), they first said it was a problem connected to the wastegate/pulse 'lead?'. I was fine with that as it says under my warranty under TURBO section that wastegate is included. Garage rang the warranty company and they said its not covered (surprise) as they said its not technically a wastegate problem tut tut and smart have quoted me £205 to fix it. So I said to garage i will come and pick car up so I can have it for the weekend and I will give warranty people a ring for myself to try and sort it out with them and will bring it back monday to have it fixed with myself or warranty people footing the bill............here is where my dilema begins (at last I hear some of you think ha). I got into my car and it was fine and had the power back as per normal but the engine check light is showing , so i have 2 choices to make really i feel.......

                  1) Pretend everything is fine again and not get in contact again with garage topay the £205 to have it fixed as I am currently unemployed so not really got that spare cash available (but engine check light worries me with this option)

                  2) Ring Smart garage up and explain its fine now, to which they will probably say its only temporary as they will want the £205 for their troubles, or they will say its my choice to risk it not failing again but will then want some money for the diagnostix check etc

Please help me as I am stuck between a rock and a hard place what to do

If the light is on but the problem is gone it sounds like the actuator itself is gone. It is £15 from Wellsmart to fit. Mine did this, but the problem will come back. Changed the part, job sorted. If it was just the clip you would get no light.

                    check that

                      Thanks for that link

I am going to ring the man from smart garage tomorrow to get exact details of what part was wrong so I can explain more on here as I know originally i was advised from the helpful people on this forum it maybe a wastegate actuator clip fault...........but I am pretty sure the smart garage said it was something else to do with a pulse lead and not anything specifically to do with the wastegate but it is generally in the same region

Well the garage obviously know what the problem is. Can't they give you a proper description or tell you exactly which part has failed? If it is not covered by warranty, you don't have to get it fixed by them.

Ask them for a breakdown of all the work included in the £205 with any part numbers for new bits. Post the numbers up here and well let you know what they are.

Hi everyone, this is just an update on here of what the smart garage diagnosed the problem as if anyone else has similar problem in future........

Please find the diagnostic process following your complaint of loss of power.

                            (1) Carry out short test, faults Current and Stored, P2052 “Boost pressure standard deviation 1” and P2011 “Boost pressure”.

                            (2) Check component ‘B28 (Intake manifold pressure sensor)’ – OK

                            (3) Carry out visual inspection of fuse 9 – OK

                            (4) Carry out voltage measurement at component ‘Fuse socket’, Remove Fuse 9, switch on ignition. – All measured values within tolerance.

                            (5) Carry out measurement at Bypass valve (wastegate) Detach connector from component ‘Bypass valvle (wastegate), establish contact between measurement cable and F28B component Bypass valve (wastegate) – All measured values within tolerance.

                            (6) Carry out measurement at engine wiring harness with contacted control unit N3/10 (MEG motor electronics control unit). Detach connector from component ‘Bypass valvle (wastegate), establish contact between measurement cable and F15P component Bypass valve (wastegate) – All measured values withing tolerance.

Fault = Defective Bypass valve (wastegate)

                            Hopes this helps

(I am still in contact with the warranty company on my car as to whether they will cover it as it does say it includes wastegate in booklet but there being awkward tut tut, smart quoted me £205 to have it fixed, is this reasonable for the defective bypass valve (wastegate))?

                            Thanks

£75 of the labour charge is removing and refitting the back end! YEs, it's reasonable at £100 an hour labour.
