  • New Roadster owner!

    Hello,

So i've been looking for a new car and love the style of the roadster, dont know much about them so any advice as to what i can do to them with a budget of £700. i am not looking to turn it into some power ranger with stick on parts, just want to maintain it best as posible with a few slick mods.

Here is the car that i have just bought, like i say im new so not to sure if i got a deal or not but i think i did? Payed £3800 for the light version with 30k on the clock and full service history.

    Thanks

Nice car! Add dash pods too if you can find some going cheap - breakers on eBay are a good source.

I don't often drive roadies without paddleshift and when I do I find it niggling

Treat yourself to a V6 steering wheel and TAN to get it working........

BTW can someone remindme what the initials T.A.N stand for - probably some unpronouncable german

Take some time to get to know your roadster, use some of the £700 on super unleaded and take some long drives just for the hell of it!

Once you and your roadster have 'bonded', you'll know what you need to spend the money on.

Remaps are fine, but it won't turn it into a Porsche, if you want power and speed, the roadster will leave you wanting - it's only a 3 cylinder 700cc engine after all. The roadsters ace card is that it is huge fun to drive. I've had mine 6 years and it still makes me grin from ear to ear.

If you want to meet with other roadster owners on the UK's largest Smart Roadster specific online community, come and say hello at The Roadster.Net

I would look at the state of the tyres and the brakes firstly, make sure you stay the right way up and not in a hedge, boring I know

The last 2 posts do make a lot of sense.

Living with the car for a while will allow you to decide whether you can live with the Grundig stereo (the spec suggests you still have it....)

Opinion is divided - some folks think the grundig HU is OK, many think they are both C**p

Everyone agrees the speakers HAVE to go

Once you're happy that the car is mechanically A1 - any left over money should be put towards paddleshift IMHO. You can buy a 2nd hand wheel from ebay for approx £200-£250, allow £50-£100 for the TAN activation (software update to enable the paddleshift function on the car) and I'd also put aside another £50 just incase the 2nd hand wheel you buy has a broken angle sensor (common problem with 2nd hand wheels) as you'll need to pay someone to swap the sensor of your current wheel unless you're prepared to have a go yourself.

Get to know your car. I did the same. I waited 3 months before I did anything. Started with silicone hoses and a dump valve + a K&N 57i induction kit. Now its spacers for the rear wheels and lowered. I will get a remap but only for quicker gear changes really. Also spent some money on good tyres.

Don't get to excited about that, even Big himself only reckons on a 10% reduction at best, so ~1/10 of a second. Better off having the clutch re-taught and lubing the actuator.

I have only changed the stereo as of yet as the old one was rubbish! will be using a dry carbon wrap on some of te inside parts of the car as i still have some left from my old cor which i did the roof on. I'll post some pics up later once its all done and you can let me know if its any good.

Remap and forge dump valve to be done once back from holiday along with the air filter change!
