  • Oversized valves

Does anybody have experience with oversized valves in smart engine? Ferrea lists 1.0mm oversize 6000 series competition intake and exhaust valves for smart. The prices look pretty attractive to me.

Forgive my noob questions but... so you grind out the seats larger and install these big head valves, is that the idea? Do you need guides, springs, all that kit as well as seatin grinding tools etc?

I can see the value of titanium as valves less likely to fail/burn/chip/crack and lighter weight. Would there be direct replacement Ti valves for when one is doing a rebuild and already got the top end apart?

      Re: Oversized valves

My head is currently in the shop to be thoroughly inspected for any defects and I thought it would be a good time to have new valves installed while it's there. The main goal is obviously to increase the air flow through the engine and towards that end I already have installed an ITG air filter, a Forge silicone TIK pipe, a XEP throttle body, modified cam and custom 2" exhaust with single muffler and to withstand the extra stress there's custom forged piston by JE pistons and custom forged H profile conrods and a Bonalume race clutch. I'm also thinking about getting Total Seal gapless piston rings for the pistons.

I think titanium valves would be overkill as they seem to be usually recommended for much higher revving (8000+ rpm) engines.

Bigger valves make bugger all (read that as not enough) difference on these engines

We have made Ti valves, springs and collars along with Beryllium guides

Not cheap but worth the extra

Hmm... "not cheap" as in what multiple of OEM price for example? Just looking for order of magnitude, not to to hold you to a specific quote of course.

            Re: Oversized valves

I might go with the standard sized Ferrea valves if there's no benefit with the oversized ones. At £12 each they're not much more expensive than original smart valves and dirt cheap (I suspect) compared to custom Ti valves.

              Put it this way

Brabus valves for the 600/700 heads are near as dammit £50 each

Non brabus oem valves are approx £10 each

Yes I'm fully aware what the Brabus stuff costs. If that's any consollation the Finnish smart importer Veho is asking 97 euros for a single Brabus exhaust valve.

                  Re: Oversized valves

As many Brabus-branded parts are usually... overpriced because they wear the big "B", are those Brabus valves actually worth 5x the OEM price?

So apart from the price, whats the difference between the Brabus and the Ferrea competition valves......

As far as I know only the Brabus exhaust valve is different from standard smart valve and it's filled with sodium for better heat transfer. Ferrea competition valves on the other hand are shaped for better air/fuel mixture flow.

Does anybody know any retailers actually willing to sell these Ferrea valves to general public? I've send half a dozen emails to companies that list Ferrea valves on their web sites in US and Europe asking for the valves but so far haven't received a single answer from any of them.

Did you get anywhere with the valves?

                        Thanks
