How will I know when it is enough?

If you use a 1/4 inch drive to do them up. That should allow you to do them up tight but not tight enough to shear them off. If you have a small torque wrench that has very low settings, then use that and start with a low setting and as long as it is even between the two, you can always do them a bit tighter if it leaks after the first attempt.

As far as the Inter cooler oil leak scenario; If it has the standard wear holes in the edge that touches the plastic air scoop, then the oil leak with show by dribbling down either side of the drive shafts.

Having looked at various other torque setting on the cars, I would go for about 10Nm if your torque wrench goes that low.

Good thinking that I can always tighten it a bit more later.
          Thank You!

The oil spill is just close to the turbo!

I don't play banjo, not even guitar? Oh I understand, the connection at the other end of the oil pipe! That comes with the pipe!

I think I had that "banjo" of before I put the engine in 2008 and put the old seals back in place.

                    Sorry for the delay...

Oil feed line to turbo (2 bolts): 8Nm
Oil banjo bolt to crankcase: 10Nm

                      Oh, thank You!
Now I will have to find a very small torque wrench. Maybe they have one at work I can borrow.

Re: Oil stain under the car!

That's why I just did mine up "tight" by hand! I only had a normal 1/2 inch drive torque wrench at the time which didn't even start until something like 20 - 25Nm!

Do you have an electric drill with a torque setting ring on it? That way you would get even torque on the two bolts....

                        Just a thought.

I do and it goes very low! Thanks for the tip!

Isn't that the "banjo" connection You see on this picture (of my engine before it was mounted 2008)

That means it was dissconnected but there were never any new seals.

                            Edit 3/10
I was looking at the wrong place, the banjo is connected in the picture so it might never have been diconnected..

Well, here is a reminder to always check the most obvious and simple first.
The top breather pipe valve was stuck open.
I changed it and the turbo boost that have looked a little bit strange for about a year now seems to be right again.
Well I might put checking that valve on the service list.
Now I will see during next week if that was all.

Re: Oil stain under the car!

If the one way valve has been letting oil mist through to the point where it was leaking from the turbo TIK join, I bet your inter cooler has a load of horrible black oil in it!

If you ever get the leak due to the inter cooler "chattering" against the plastic of the air scoop, you are suddenly going to get "lots and lots" of oil spots all over the back of your car and you really will panic that something has BROKEN!

As mentioned in an earlier post, if this happens, the leak shows as oil stains down either side of the gearbox drive shafts.

The Inter cooler can be repaired by first cleaning it of oil, then using something like Metal epoxy resign (it has metal fillings already mixed in it) - this helps with the heat transfer. Don't forget to trim back the plastic edge on the air scoop which caused the problem in the first place or it will just happen all over again!
