  • Airbag light stays ON

    Hey'a guys!

I've read several threads about this but couldn't find the answer...
Thing is, the airbag light came ON just one day, as a surprise.
I haven't changed or do nothing, not on the wheel-alignment whatsoever.
I didn't even drive into a bump/hole or anything like that...
Everything was great until today morning, which that light came up.
I have it once (a year ago), but after shutting down the engine and starting it up - it went away.
This time, it stays ON, over and over after every time I shut/start the engine.
I hope there's a way to turn it OFF without visiting MB/Smart (for their comp).
    Please advice me

Here's a pic of the right dial, engine ON, car idle :

p.s - driving with it, I mean - leaving it like that without turning it OFF, can do any harm?

There is no way of turning it off without a star machine, with the light on you have no airbags.

Do you have seat side airbags?

            LOL

Anyways, I figured out I'll need to remove the upholstery and foam.
If there's a way of knowing if one have side-airbags without that mess, I'll be happy to know.
Here's a pic of the seat, just in case there's a "secret method" for the above, hehe...

And another question, if I may...
Where can I find a Win-Star device for sale in a good price?
Or at least some kind of "reset tool" for these errors, here and there...
I've found this site, asking 1495GBP+VAT+S&H.
I'm talking about something more "easy" for ones pocket, if you know what I mean.
On ebay I've found several options (other than Win-Star)... are they even worth checking?!
And last one, I've found this device, called Magus, for only 45GBP... it's under "Win-Star" website, so I guess it's good (?).

I'm sure you're right, but don't forget I only want to reset this error and that's it.
MB Israel is a pain in the tush, as you guys might have read in my threads before...
I'm not going to check the cars limits, or so, just once and then when an error pops.

Got a message that tells me this product will be good for me...
I've also found this scanner, GS500... what you guys think?
And btw, several people offered me to buy one of those BT devices and d/l some apps from Apple store (there's quite a lot there).
Anyways, I would like to be sure what kind of product would fit me the best,
And of course what kind of connector do I need for the OBD which will fit a smart roadster.
                    Opinions appreciated!

From your photo it seems that you dont have side airbags.
You can double check under the seat for a yellow connector with wires
going into the seat. No such connector means you dont have side airbags.
And, save your money and dont buy one of those testers.
They will be useful for engine/clutch/gear type of codes, but will not
help you for the airbag reset.
Only the very expensive STAR, WINSTAR, and some equally expensive
testers from Bosch will help you on that.

Do you have lowered suspension and/or are the quality of roads generally better or poorer
                          than UK roads?

I suspect a shock has buggered the angle sensor - my usual problem

If the visit to a Star machine dores not clear it then it will probably mean the angle sensor
                          has gone....

                            Re: Airbag light stays ON

                            Well, updates...
I have no connector under the chair,
I have no lowered suspension etc,
The roads are poorer, imho, lol.

I've contacted MB Israel and guess what... 80GBP just to connect the car to their computer.
To be exact : "it's 80GBP to connect and can get up to 100GBP depending what happened".
When I told her "listen, I just need to delete the errors, nothing more... it's not as if I'm remapping..."
She said "who said it's the airbags sensor?! we might find the airbags needs replacements or maybe the ECU got water in it".
The're freaking thieves and I hate the way MB Israel acts to their customers. it's a shame!!
I'm not going to pay it and they can surely kiss my chass.

Please let me know what kind of connector is it in the car.
I might sind other garages over here that have a comp with this type of connector.
I don't remember where I've read it, but do BMW use the same comp & stuff?!

The connector is not the problem; they are all standard OBD2-type.
That goes for the small cheap testers as well as the expensive ones.
You may find a workshop with one of the advanced Bosch-testers that possibly will help you out.
