Dog cage / guard for Roadster coupe?

Highly unlikely, I am thinking, but does anyone know of any kind of dog guard or cage that is the right shape to fit in the passenger seat of a Smart Roadster coupe? This would be for a medium-sized dog, so a small pet carrier box would be too small. I am thinking that there is not enough room for a medium-sized dog on the shelf behind the seats, even if it were possible to put a safety guard there. If dog plus Roadster coupe do not mix, Roadster will probably have to go Thanks in advance for any tips.

With the seat folded down, you could probably get a small crate to sit on top of it, but I don't know of the sizes.
I'd fold the seat down, measure the height left and head off to pets at home and measure what they have in stock.

Although as I'm sure you're well aware, it wouldn't be the safest solution!
Would a dog-seatbelt and a cloth not do the job?

I carried 2 x westies about in my previous roadster with no problems at all they either lay in the footwell or on the seat depends very much on how well behaved your dog is - I have even when transporting a strange dog looped the lead through the seat belt door thingy plus of cours the dog seatbelt is an option too so all in all I would say keep the roadster and give it a go

Thanks very much for the advice, baggpuss and RacingSnake. I had never heard of a dog seatbelt. You can see that I have a great deal to learn about all things doggy! I will investigate. And make some measurements. Also the footwell option sounds very plausible with perhaps some added restraint. The dog hasn't arrived yet. I'm making plans for its arrival. Hence wondering about the Roadster. Thanks so much again. I really appreciate your help

I regularly take my dog (with harness which attaches to seatbelt) in both our Roadster & ForTwo, though with the latter he will go in the boot when there is a passenger on board.

Get a standard notch back Roadster and fit the dog rack lol.

Put him on the rear shelf, the heat from the engine will make him sleepy and calm

Hi ya! Just coming in to an old post to see if you did sort the problem out Deborah? My older Staffy, (sadly passed away 2 weeks ago!) was always so well behaved in the car! I used to tie and bit of bungy cord around the actual seat and connect his short lead to it, he could look out of the window and roof if he wanted but could also lay on the floor or seat but was secure if anything should have happened! I rescued another staffy 7 months ago when she was only 7 months old. The man who had her (no training given and locked up in a 3rd floor flat) told me he used to take her with him in his lorry but had to stop doing that as his boss moaned, but now I'm questioning that as when I put her in any car she freaks out! Goes round and round in circles and is visibly distressed. Ive only tried her in the roady twice, first time she tried climbing on my lap, under my legs, on the back shelf (and she's not a little staffy either!) twisted her self round so much she couldn't breathe in her harness and managed to turn the key off whilst I was driving, luckily only slow at the time! So the second time I used the dog seatbelt accessory and that was even worse as she was nearer me. Now I'm scared to take her out, I've looked for some kind of barrier like they do for car boots but even on ebay the man selling a secure front seat barrier/guard didn't answer when I asked how it could be fitted in a 2 seater and why did it look like the boot versions!
Basically I'm asking if anyone has come up with a better idea yet? I'm partially disabled and because I can't get the puppy into the car safely both me and her tend to be stuck in doors whereas with my previous dog I socialised him by taking him out! Any ideas guys? x x
