Gonna try to detach the connector for some wd40 spraying, and protect the wires with a section of rubber hose where it touches the scoop.
    Fingers crossed!
That is a very good idea!

I did try to upload some pics.. but only seems to work if you have them stored online??

Anyway, going to give the clutch actuator a clean out and grease tomorrow, just to rule that one out, and got a (hopefully) good selection motor from ebay 'just incase'

        In situ?
Removing it creates all sorts of re-fitting problems. Do it in situ is what I recommend - just in case you were thinking of removing it that is!

Really? I read the thread on Evilution which said to remove it. I was going to mark exactly the position it was in on the box (once I had cleaned all the grime off) as it has slotted holes, then I understand it 'relearns' the bite point after about 200 miles, otherwise shifting it forwards/backwards a fraction and retest would do it, no?

Yep. Your first problem will be removing it without the bolts snapping as they will inevitably be siezed. Once that's sorted out you can then engage in the debate as to whether it should be refitted with preload and if so the degree of preload - a debate that has no definitive conclusion. And even then it may require a reteach courtesy of STAR.
Or you could save yourself a whole load of potential grief and do it in situ.....
            (Aerosols make it easy).

yep, it happened alright, snapped off 2 or the bolts, and a piece of the actuator's casting broke off too as it was corroded to the gearbox!

Couldn't get the motor off to have a look inside as.. you guessed it, the bolts were seized.
BUT.. with the amount of corrosion I could see inside when I removed the pushrod, and all the brown muck which was constantly coming out when I shook it, kinda made my mind up to replace it.

Anyone have a good second hand one knocking about?
The cheapest new one I can see is eurocarparts at £225

edit.. an ebay one from France £171 delivered

edit 2... £170 direct from Sachs

edit 3.. just bought direct from Sachs.. better safe than sorry etc!!

              BUGGER!

The problem I guess is that all the 'how-to' guides were written when the cars were fresh. Now the advice is being applied to cars with several years of added corrosion. Corrosion on old cars aint new though - merely adds to the challenge of keeping them alive.

                    Re: Roadster Coupe Gearbox woes..

I got one from Dingbro about two weeks. Paid GBP 137.
The old actuator was very poorly. All lugs broke when I removed it. All bolts were seized and needed the oxy acetylene treatment.

The car is not mine. I've sorted out the seized bolt issue on mine by fitting stainless steel studs & nuts. Corrosion of clutch actuator body and lugs can be controlled by applying paint now and then.

I'll give the metal a coating of ACF50, I use it on the bike's aluminium parts which fends of corrosion pretty well, its sorta WD40 type stuff, but mainly for corrosion protection.

For sure replacing with stainless helps as does coating everything in a waterproof grease.
I'm lucky in that I have access to a grease (designed for the food industry where it has to resist frequent hot water washing) which is the best on the market and handily, is available in aerosol format as well a more conventional cartridges. Once on, it never washes off.

Nope, a proper NLGI 2 grease with a 50lbs OK Timken load. Tackier than a ten dollar whore, it sticks to anything.

On mine sometimes, when I come to a stop and engage first gear to start driving you can hear the actuator pop out and the three lines appear and then you cant move or start the engine when it is turned off. Is this the same problem?
you have to remove the battery and after a couple of tries it goes back in to gear, but with a lot of hassle.

I will know when it is going to start giving problems as when I start the actuator takes longer to engage into gear.

I'm having the same problem, & have three bars on constantly now, but DO have drive.
Although two or three times total, only after LONG drives, she' lost drive with three bars. Leaving to cool down for 10-20 mins has always solved the latter so far. On another (Tr.n) forum, someone said replacing the actuator sorted this (dive cut our, due to overheating). Although I think my perm 3 bars (with drive) is due to chaffed gearbox cabling, as mentioned in this thread.
