What is confusing me Capture.JPG why on evilution (http://www.evilution.co.uk/678) they unscrew these bolts.

The thing you highlighted is the gear position motor NOT the starter motor, if you follow the 2 bolts in your second picture, on the threaded end is the starter motor, which looks physically the same as your third pic,,,except maybe a different colour!
