  • 2003 Smart Roadster - Installing Aftermarket Stereo (Need help)

    Hi Everyone,

I have recently purchased a new Apline UTE-72BT Stereo for my smart roadster but I am running into some issues already!

My first problem is that I can't actually get the existing stereo out of the head unit! I have looked at a How to guide here http://www.fq101.co.uk/how-to-guides...et-stereo.html but found that my stereo is completely different (as you will see in my pictures attached)

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this so does anyone have an idea about what the hell the stereo is that's in my car at the moment? I can get the front of it out but everything else just won't budge!

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Thats the Becker sat nav system.
From memory to slots under the front "knobs" will allow the correct tool to remove it completely

I have no use for the navigation system and I want to be able to connect my phone via bluetooth and use a USB stick to play music in the car

Add a blluetooth gateway with USB input to your existing radio. It will sound much better than the alpine thing you are replacing it with.

I wasn't aware that was possible...could you give some more details on how I would do this?

U can get the keys from halfords or ebay for a few pounds, they are flat key things, if u have small screwdrivers/knives or a couple of tweezers It can be done.

Very easy. Buy a gateway (the Parrot ones are very good) - unplug the two connectors that plug into the radio, plug them into the parrot unit, then plug the parrot ones into the radio instead.

Locate the mic and control panel somewhere convenient - job done.

Whenever you use the parrot it will intercept the radio output and replace it with it's own - meaning you make Bluetooth calls, do audio streaming & USB playback from the gateway - and still use the standard headunit for CD/radio.

Means you get decent sound, and your car's interior doesn't interest thieves.
