  • Alternator removal what a pain!

Well Ive had a go and i've got it off I followed the how to on everlution and it does work, it only took me 3 hours to get it off just got to wait for the new one to come now.
However there are a few problems getting the bolts out after 8 years were a nightmare and the car in the how to doesn't have air con, if you do like me yo cant get your hands down to remove the cable nuts or rock the alternator to get it out but I did it. The problem now is how to get it all back in there and re connect the cables. I will post again when I've tried to put it back together.

Its a great how to but there was no way I could get my hands down past the air con pump and pipes to to pull and push the alternator and getting the leads of took a very long extension bar with a swivel head but the main thing is it worked I got it out.
      Thanks

I think you ought to drop engine lower. As for wiggling alternator free from its bracket, this can be made a lot easier by tapping the inboard end of alternator towards outboard. Inboard bracket ear of alternator contains a split sleeve. Tapping it moves this sleeve thereby making it less tight.

Lower or tip the engine a bit more. A broom handle placed onto the alternator and tapped with a hammer will get it out of the pivot point. During the removal and fitting you do have to adjust the height of the engine to suit the job.
