The 944 was a really expensive car in its day. I managed to buy a three year old secondhand 'Y' reg 924 in the same white. Owned it for two years.

SAM stands for Signal Acquisition & Actuation Module.
The heater blower isn't under that cover, it's inside the centre heater box inside the car.
The foam seal is unsuitable and water can pass over the top too. The bucket doesn't fill up from a blocked pipe, the water forms drips from the return lip and seeps passed the seal through capillary action.
