Standard Air Filter ?

Hi again ..... another curiosity that needs answering please...

I've recently checked the Air Filter state, as last invoices (previous owner) suggest it was replaced 3 years ago (4K miles ago).

The airbox internals were pretty bad, all sorts of debris in there.

The pleated element itself was quite clean - it's a genuine Smart item.... but there was a fluffy cylindrical "Sock" fitted over it, which was thick with dust, hairs, leaves, bugs etc.


Is the fluffy sock included with the Smart OEM filter ....or has this been removed from the previous Air Filter (unknown manufacture) and placed onto the new OEM element ??

The last invoice was by a Smart independent ....
