Throttle Body - mistake ???

Hi All,

I've removed the Intercooler in order to adapt the air scoop slightly, as it's started to wear it's way into the base of the intercooler (Common problem by all accounts)

I removed the throttle body to get better acess, but I'm now concerned as I've just read you MUST dicsonnect the battery before disconnecting electrical connection on throttle body (oo though no explanantion as to why ?)

have I just unwittingly f****d up my throttle body .....

Where did you read this? By convention, you would disconnect the battery first if you are working on something electrical (even if it is indirect) as a safety precaution.

I bet it makes no difference as long as ignition is off.

we regularly un-plug connectors at work with the battery connected (battery disconnected when working on SRS systems) and we have no issues.

It's just good practice but almost certainly not required.

Hi all,

Was on eBay as part of the description on a listing for re-worked throttle bodies.

I now think the statement was made, not to prevent possible damage, but something to do with re-setting the ECU so it learns a default throttle value (ohms) ????

Anyway - a bit ambiguous now as I re-installed the intercooling, body & pipe last night and she fired first touch, idled normally at 1500rpm (Pre-heat operating ?) before dropping to 1200, then down to 900rpm.

Everything seems fine .... so I slept OK last night !

Sounds like something Paul from CAS Flowed would put on his eBay sales. It's just arse covering and fitting another throttle body can cause hunting in the revs but a quick battery disconnect can fix it as long as the throttle body is ok. It's the same arse covering as when he sells a turbo and insists that it is primed with oil before fitting as that's the normal thing to do (despite the fact you cannot prime a smart turbo because the oil inlets and outlets face straight down so all oil in the cartridge would drain out before the oil pipe was tightened. And that all of the oil naturally drains from the turbo every time you turn the car off).
