  • Jammed Drivers seat

    Hi all,

Another issue acquired with the car was a jammed drivers seat - just will not budge at all

Handle mechanism appears to be releasing OK and I've noticed the seat moves about a bit, on one of the rails, as I've been trying to shift it..

..so I guess only 1x rail is jammed - I have noticed ball bearings at the front of the jammed rail - I thought it was gravel, so tried to pick them out at first, before I realised they were free and perfect spheres ! They've since dissapeared out of sight, so obviously very free.

The rear TORX fixings are covered by the seat, so I can't get it out ?

I have resorted to dissassembling the seat - have removed the headrest & back foam - all black clips broken, but white clips all OK ?

Now have to wait for a T45 TORX bit to remove the seat base cushion, which appears to be on it's own frame ??

Not sure if this will allow me any further acess to get to the jam, but I just don't know what else to try ?

Have even tried levering the seat forward with a large piece of timber - all my weight/force, but nothing ??

    Any ideas

Use compressed air to blow dirt out, penetration oil and plenty of Lidl elbow grease and you will free your runners.

Hi Tolsen ... I think this is much more than just dirt, as it's completely solid on the "gearbox" tunnel side.

I found some loose change behind the seat, so I'm thinking it's probably a coin jammed in there ....

          FIXED

          twas a 3.5 x 40mm wood screw, extremely mangled !

Had to destroy seat base cover in order to lift foam and get to base pan front studs, but I had a pair of replacement seats on the way anyway .....

With seat removed from rail, still required considerable hammer blows to get the rail moving, before it finally spat the screw out the back.
