    From the linked article, this is the key sentence:

    ''VI Improvers are polymer material that expands as the oil warms up.This does NOT thicken the oil as is often stated.It merely slows down the rate at which oil thins out as the temperature rises.''

    But thin (with heat) it does.

      Yeah....my original logic was mis-placed, but it all makes sense now - twas the coloured block chart that made the penny drop !


      I collected appx 2400 ml over the 2day+ syphon, so I guess about 600ml remaining (only drained 80% of sump)

      re-filled with 2500ml of fresh oil, upto Max on dipstick.

      5 mins on the road to circulate, then left for 1 hour and oil level back to 3/4 between min & max.

      Fresh oil is black already, so I may decided to treat this new fill as a "flush" and drain again in a week or two.....
