  • Water Pump Pulley

    Hi all,

Changed the alternator belt this weekend and noticed that the grooves in the water pump pulley are extremely shallow, maybe around 0.5mm deep ?

I had expected a deep v-groove, like the crank & alternator pulley, and like the new belt profile ?

    Is this normal ?

The OD of the pulley doesn't look worn at all, as I would have expected the edges of the belt to have worn a recess into the pulley

I expected it to spit off the new belt, but it's fine ?

Water pump pully is plain without grooves but belt will over time bed in and make some rather shallow grooves. Nothing to worry about.

      Hi Tolsen,

Really ? this sounds very odd engineering to me, but if it is normal then I can relax !

Engine has done 92K miles, so the shallow grooves I see are to be expected then

      Thanks for the insight
