  • Immobiliser problem

    Hi All,
I am new to the forum but I would appreciate any advice on how to investigate and resolve an immobilization problem with my 2005 Roadster.
The independent Smart garage in Cork can synchronise the key to the car but within 25 minutes of switching off the engine, the key desynchronizes. They don’t know why this happens. Central locking is not working and shows up as a fault in a scan.
The garage says that the central locking fault may be a wiring problem or a SAM problem. They want to spend about four hours (@ £65/Hour) stripping down the doors etc to check for broken or loose central locking wiring. If wiring is not the problem, they suggest that I go to the authorised Smart garage in Belfast to have the SAM unit checked or replaced.
Do you think that the central locking fault is independent of the immobiliser problem or is it a separate problem?
Any advice will be appreciated on whether I take the above approach, as I don’t want to end up scrapping my roadster which I love driving.

ONE thread would EASILY suffice noob lol 😁
I see about a dozen with the same title from you!!

Although the key receiver is a separate item, it Sound's like a SAM problem cos they are renowned for getting drenched in a roadster.

PS: As the SAM is several hundred, and key receiver's do fail but are a lot cheaper , I suppose it might be a plan to eliminate the receiver by replacement first, but a decent inspection should show up if the SAM has been water damaged in the past.

Forget the idea of damaged or 'loose'? Wiring, apart from corroded (from water ingress) SAM connectors

If you only have 1 key my first thought would be to get another, get that coded and see if that improves the problem, it's rare for the car to forget the key but the keys drop codes without any prompting. The receiver is normally pretty good but they do plqy up from time to time, a star machine (not sure if one of the other diagnostic things allows you to see) would let y ousee if the receiver was still picking up even when the key wasn't working,if it is then you've narrowed it down to the key......
