Thanks. Just to bring you up to date, It looks like only one motor. From the same spot I was able to release the rear. Unfortunately that it appears that is not the only problem so after all the effort, it looks like I will need to bring it to Smart for resolution.

Sorry I cant be of more help JOKING but my car is a Coupe and if I've seen a Softtop it has been driving past me!
Maybe someone with more experience of the cabriolet can help.

I would like to conclude this by letting you know the outcome. After all my messing around and the failed efforts of my general mechanic, I brought to Smart. Their solution was to reprogram the top. No new parts or long delay for parts. Unclear why it needed to be reprogrammed but am happy it was a reasonable and quick solution.
