  • Sticker from Smart

We've recieved a letter from Smart this morning . . . it says,

'Smart continuously monitors vehicle performance and quality, both during the production process and in everyday operation. As a result of our performance monitoring, we have determined that on this type of vehicle, it may be possible to assume that the air intake for the engine on the left-hand rear of the vehicle is in fact the fuel tank inlet.'

'Accompanying this letter is a sticker that needs to be attached to the left door window, which should help alleviate the risk of any user inadvertently putting fuel in the incorrect aperture. Fitting instructions are supplied.'

Fitting instructions for a sticker !!!!! Using the air intake for fuel !!!!! Has anyone ever made that mistake???

Jodrell, just received the same letter! Surrey Smart Centre told me of one owner (A WOMAN!) who tried just that. She pulled/forced the air vent off & started pumping in the fuel. Fortunately she noticed it spilling on the ground and went for help. All pumps turned off, Fire Brigade called etc. I think I remember them saying it cost big bucks to sort out!
I reckon it's this Americanism that one needs to be told everything not to do. ie "Do not place your dog in this microwave oven as it is not designed for this purpose"

It was the fact that the sticker actually has a whole A4 page of fitting instructions that cracked me up!!!

Well if your stupid enough to want to put fuel in the air intake you'll probably need them!

I like the fact they've sent them out at all! Like ppl have NEVER put fuel in the car before?

It has to be said, I know of somebody who has done this. She was lent a Smart when having her Merc serviced and put fuel in air filter. God knows ho as it is quite difficult to pull the filter cover off!<img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hey jen will back you up! I have also NEVER even attempted to put fuel in the wrong place in my smart. Its not exactly brain science is it, and definatley NOT a gender thing!

I do know however, that my partner has put diesel in a petrol car more than once...maybe thats a gender thing.

I don't think that any of the comments are addressed at women in general dear, it just so happens that we've only heard of women doing it - I'm sure that there are just as many stupid men out there as well.
