Most powerful Smart car out there??

As the title really... does anyone know what the most powerful smart car is?? Mainly interested in fortwos - im sizing up possible engine transplants and im a little concerned that a few possible options may make it wheelie...

Any ideas?

I guess on raw power, you're looking at the bike engine ones - around 160-180 bhp.

If you are looking at more torquey motors, then wheelies are quite likely I imagine! I remember Rob at Smart Arse mentioning that his highly tweaked ForTwo could lift its front wheels off the deck. And thats not even an engine transplant.. Just a highly modded standard motor.
I remember when I saw roadgoing Beetles at Santa Pod pulling wheelies off the line.. Never knew they could do that and I was stunned! Must be a bit scary in a ForTwo with its silly short wheelbase though..

Hmm... looking at a few engines with ALOT more torque than even a highly tuned fortwo at the moment, scary stuff...

Jim recons the MR2 should be about 200 bhp.

PS 'its' in, just got the clutch pedal and wiring to sort out. New Pics will be posted at the weekend

An italian smart car member sent me a linbk to an early smart fortwo which had been engineered to take the FIAT punto 1400cc turbo engine, looked superb and talked of 200bhp+! And i can believe the 200bhp+ claims as in the

With the Fiat punto there are many which can push 220bhp with a few minor mods. The only let down was the convrsion price.

I know of an SW smart fortwo 450 with 260bhp in germany! But its not really built for out and out speed and uses the original 698cc engine

Pam, yours is an inspiration - I am currently looking at 150-170bhp, but its torque that concerns me - do you know how much you're going to have? I really must come and have a look, but unfortunately I am in my final year/month of Uni! - as soon as I am free I will give you a pm and beg to have a look! The only thing is, your smart is already very light elsewhere, so im not sure what difference there will be to an otherwise standard smart?

Interesting times ahead for the smart community for sure!

If you want torque then put a diesel engine in it!! I looked at putting a rotary engine in. Found one that puts out 180bhp and comes in a variation of forms for mounting purposes. Cant remember what it was now but it was purposely built to be small and lightweight. I no someone who has had 150hp out of a standard 600 with a few internal mods. Im not sure if robs did wheelies. It may have but it's not exactly got a massive amount of power compared with a lot of other fortwos around. U can feel the front wheels lift slightly if u have around 130bhp but its not a massive amount

No its not a daft question. You can do this sort of mod to a roadster a bike engine as been put in them already a few times. Its all down to how much you want to spend and imagination & now how I think that's all.

how about a civic type R engine

oh and a rotory engine would be a pain! having owned a RX8, warming it up before you can shut it down, topping oil every 2 tanks of petrol, petrol consumption was insane too. .

Robs car does NOT wheelie.
Ive seen 167bhp in a for2 and that didnt wheelie.


If you have BIG money how about my favourite V8??
Only £20,000 plus gearbox etc etc etc
