Photo's are very nice, but IMO, the pic of your car and mini-paragraph about the car make it look quite unprofessional

Thank you for your comments..i must admit though you are the only person to mention my car photo & paragraph in a negative way....the photo of my car is because my website is named after my car and i got advice to have an opening paragraph about myself so they knew who was taking the photos

          Re: Puddlejumper Photography now Online

It's purely my opinion, so I'm not saying that what you've done is wrong, but it just makes it sound like a homepage you've set up with photography as a side job rather than a business. I also think it's more that the picture of your car is more like something you'd find on a profile page (looks amateurish compared to the actual photo's in your gallery and you have to remember that it's the first piece of your work everyone will see) as well as being quite large and vibrant compared to the neutral colours everything else on the page so it's distracting.

I got that the site was named after the car and of course it's important to have an "about you" blurb for people to read but I always think it's more to grasp why they enjoy photographing what they do and what experience they have in various fields.

Here's a couple of examples from a few photographers from another forum I'm on...

          Welcome to my website.

Based in Sussex in the UK, I'm a keen cyclist and freelance photographer who specialises in sport and event photography.

I enjoy shooting a wide variety of topics from landscapes through to live music and you can see samples of my work in my Pbase galleries on the link below.

Please click on 'Galleries' on the left to go to my various cycling and live music galleries.
My passions are Clubbing (Drum and Bass) as well as Photography and I have been lucky enough to be able to combine the two.

I started off as a 'spotter' on DontStayIn.Com, taking pictures for free, for local nights and some Drum & Bass events handing out their cards to people. I quickly broke away from the free side of it as it's pretty unrewarding and now get commissioned to photograph events, and hand out my own cards, with my own website. (and also on Facebook)
The majority of my work consists of events in London.

My pictures have been perceived well in 'the scene', gaining me contacts within D&BArena, Metalheadz, Shogun Audio, WeFearSilence, Backlash Records, Eclectricity, GetDarker, Banquet Records and Genesis Nights - With my pictures being bought for use in their own advertisements, websites and flyers.

Promoter, nightclub owner or run your own events ? Get in touch!

            Hi
:goodlk: with your site - some lovely photo's on there.
Have to agree that the car is very much in your face on the homepage - you have some stunning pictures you could be showcasing in its place. Rather than lose the car, could you make it a little smaller and maybe off-set it - giving you room to put "Picture of the Day" in its place.
The very bold copyright statements are a little too distracting for me, is it possible to lighten it up so that you can look through it rather than looking around it?
Hope this helps, wishing you all the best with your new venture.

i have to agree on the website set up BUT saying that, you are only charging a few quid per pic so its not like you are trying to push £100 prints

have a profile tab with the car stuff on and put one of your stunning images in that fits with the colour and style of your site design

do you also register your images on the online databases that magazines etc use to source images?

love the pictures though and am surprised how many places you have been where i go... southend, rayleigh, bristol - scared

Any special assignments considered,All my photos can be printed larger or on Canvas, please contact me directly for all enquiries on sizes and prices.
But she is currently trying to promote herself as an event/occasion photographer for hire, so could be charging several considerably over £100 for requested jobs if the client feels she's worth it.

I would forgot a profile tab altogether. Fair enough, the car inspired the name of the site, but looking from a potential clients point of view, it really doesn't bring anything to the table. A concise statement about yourself and what (if any) fields of photography you specialise in (sports, landscape, portrait, etc) or have a personal interest/understanding of will be of much more benefit.

I'm almost certain that if you posted that on a non-Smart forum for critique that would be the first thing that got pointed out

Thank you all for the lovely comments regarding my photos...im very proud of them & of my website
Thank you also for the suggestions on my website, this is my first attempt at anything like this so suggestions were very welcome

Following the suggestions i have now made changes to the homepage of the website, the photo of my car has been made smaller (the smallest that the website will allow apparently...although i think its small enough now) and introduced at "photo of the month" section.

                      Anymore suggestions...please feel free

                        Re: Puddlejumper Photography now Online

I don't 'get' the panoramic pic at the top ?

what's that all about ? , it's as if it's an generic banner ad for some holiday or something?

and ........ psst, it doesn't link to anything , in fact none of them do, you're missing a trick there I think, any accidental method to take the punter to the picture gallery is always a good idea.
Top pic is out of place imho, I vote get rid of it and put your photo of the month/day/whatever up there instead?

                        You can thank me later

PS there must be some opacity % setting for that watermark somewhere ?
                          It's too strident

I suspect that is to make sure noone uses photoshop (other photo editing software is available ) and claim it for themselves...

It's a tricky thing copyright, but it's probably better to be safe than sorry when you're first starting out - much harder to do when you're more famous

I'm not saying get rid of it , still should be in (or across) the core of the picture, just a little more 'in the background', if it's there, no matter how in the background' it'll be very hard to get rid of with even the best pic editing stuff anyway. not worth someone's time is it ?

Ritzy R says much the same thing, so it's gotta be true
