    Re: Which Sat Nav ????

Map updates on the tomtom ain't free , but the map changes are free on the share program , these are for changes in road speeds , changes to one way streets , closed roads ect. But for new roads ect that means a new map which you will have to pay for.

As for the speed camera downloads I would stay away from the tomtom ones as they are not as accurate as the GPS world one and it cost less too

I'd say Garmin for ease of use, but Navman for quality of mapping.

Bought a Becker in January in Halfords for £98, good sized screen, mapping is fairly good but not the most intuative to program.

I would suggest a Garmin for first timers, they are easy to get started with.

I have had the TomTom Go300 for a long time,, it been very good, only problem was the mount, rang both TomTom and supplier both sent new mounts without any problem,
guy at local car boot was selling maps of all western europe with all the speed cameras £4,
I did have to buy a larger SD card, it works well, door to door all europe, graphics are smothish as well,
I have seen a Mio what a pain to set a route, also a Garmin 260, still not as good as the Go300,

for me TT wins every time, except for the bike then a Zumo550 wins,

I have had a Road Angel, TomTom and currently have a Garmin.

The Road Angel was far more accurate for speed cameras but an inaccurate map.

The TomTom was poor on cameras but a good SatNav.

The Garmin is quite good on both these, looks the best but can be very awkward to enter in an address/postcode - especially on the europe map.

On balance I would opt for a TomTom.

You could always get a PDA with sat nav, then a bluetooth OBD port reader so you can have a live feed of readouts.

Why would you want a bluetooth OBD if you have sat nav on a PDA...?

the only trouble with pda's are the occasional freezing, poor gui layout and tricky setup sometimes.

Garmin Nuvi 255WT for about £130 is what i'd get, in fact i'm probably going to! - big test in Auto Express last week.

Never had a problem with Garmins, I've had two (one broke when I dropped it on concrete), my mum has one, and my father-in-law has one and they're brilliant.

I've just bought a Garmin Nuvi 255WT from Amazon £137.99 and have ordered a case for it £9.15 - my mate had one since Christmas, having been pointed in the right direction by me, and swears by it. We had a £1k Garmin in '03 and it was still working fine when we ebayed it at the end of last year. I've got an older Garmin at the moment, a StreetPilot C320D - i've only updated cos this Nuvi is much easier to carry with you when not in use.
