I've got a 5 week holiday from work between 6th July and 8th August.
At least 2 weeks will be spent solidly on the Roadie.
I'm thinking of creating 2 different kinds of sub enclosure.
A purely MDF enclosure for the greenhouse. Pretty sure it's Headless that already has a nice example
And a MDF/Fibreglass enclosure. Fibre rear to take advantage of all available space and carpetted MDF front. 1 behind each seat. I'm a short arse so don't mind losing a bit of seat travel.
Then a fibreglass enclosure for the 10cm centre speaker that'll slope down from the HU to the gear stick. Lower console re-located so that 3 switches are either side of the speaker. Cigarette lighter will also need to be relocated. Probably to passenger side although I never use it anyway
13cm speakers replaced in doors and 2 13cm speakers put in pods attached to rear black bar.
My only leak is from drivers door mirror that will have to be repaired before new speaker goes in.
Had a look and looks like mirror has been removed and re-fitted very badly at some point. It's not very flush at all so I'm hoping it'll be fairly easy to sort.
I was originally hoping to put amps under the seats. But tried and although they're slim they're not THAT slim. So am now thinking in front of the seats with very heavy duty velcro. They also have LEDs on them which will light footwells. Need to do a dry run and see if they get whacked entering and exiting the vehicle.
And as I'll have the car in bits it would seem like a good time to install the SMART alarm (so the ICE doesn't get nicked) and hard-top kit
Gonna document and photograph everything. Even fibreglass enclosure creation.
You can't put sub's under the seats in a roady, there's no sub thin enough... and if, like me, you have a brabus - it has harnesses for the heated seats under the seat.
I am also toying with the idea of putting two more 5.25 speakers as my rear channel outputs are free.
I am currently running two co-ax focal's and have had two rainbow's sitting in the garage for a while that I'd like to use but can't figure out where to mount them.... (behind the seats, etc)
as for my other sub: something came up at work and I couldn't go to collect, my reservation's run out so I need to check again if they have it in stock...
It was the slimline AMPs I wanted to put under the seat not the subs. 1) 4 channel for the front and rear speakers and 1) mono for the subs
Even with the slim 10inch subs I have. There's no way I'd ever attempt to put them under a Roadie (or ForTwo for that matter), seats
I've seen pics of a Roadie (sorry can't remember whose) where the rear speakers were screwed onto the back of the headrests. Only thing was they projected the sound in the wrong direction. I.e. towards the back of the car.
I intend building pods for mine and mounting them to the black bar (dunno what it does) that sits behind the seat headrests.
So far I've experimented using a largish orange plumbing float and cutting the front off it for my pod.
If I end up having to put my subs in the greenhouse I may incorporate the rear speakers into the sub enclosure.

2) If I end up having to put my subs in the greenhouse I may incorporate the rear speakers into the sub enclosure.
1) The black bar is to stiffen the chassis instead of having a rear window (like the standard roadster).
2) If you do build them into your sub enclosure, make sure they're partitioned off so they're not sharing the enclosed air with the subwoofer otherwise you'll quickly ruin your speakers.
Does that mean it's a bad idea to hang weight off it (i.e 2 rear speakers)
Also what about drilling small holes in it? I was planning on running the speaker cabling along the inside of the black bar into the side pillar and down to the floor.
Yeah!
Don't worry I had already figured about compartmentalising the rear speakers off from the subs.
I take it each sub should be compartmentalised as well.
Behind the seat I have no choice but in the rear I could put them together. I was gonna seperate them as it makes it easier to figure out the ideal air volume etc and I reckoned it would give a better sound..
The two subs can share a compartment, but the two other speakers can't share with the sub as otherwise they'd get torn to shreds.
I wouldn't drill holes in the black bars, instead I'd come up with some way to clamp the pods to them. hanging stuff off them should be ok however.
I'd put the pods as close to the side pillars as you can to run the wires, then you only see the smallest amount of wire anyway, and that could be hidden under some black vinyl tape or similar.
I haven't had chance to read the above replies so apologies if this information is duplicated.
POWER -
LIVE -
Single power from the battery to a fused distribution block.
Two cables going from fused distribution block, one to each amp.
EARTH -
Two cables going from amps to a distribution block.
Single earth cable going from distribution block to an earth point (fixed to car body wtih a ring connector and a screw into tridion - remove all paint underneath ring connector too)
SIGNAL -
Splitting the single output from the head unit will be OK if your amplifiers have level controls on them so you can set which amp will use the low signals for the sub and which amp will use the mid and high levels for your speakers.
