Adding a sub to a standard Headunit

Hiya all, I am having a little trouble in this area!!

My smart has a sub already fitted under the drivers seat (LHD) and an aftermarket headunit so the sub's RCA cables just connect into the headunit..... the thing is, I am a stickler for standard headunits!

I want to install the standard factory headunit but apparently there are no RCA outputs.

I've been told to use a high-low rca converter but an having trouble trying to work out what I am suposed to be doing!

Am I right in saying all I need is a high to low RCA converter connect it to the rear speaker output cables on the headunit wiring then connect the sub's RCA cables to this little converter box and all done?

that is what i did on my blade , just scotch locked the converter onto the speaker cables and a live feed off the cigarette lighter socket for the live frrd to switch it on ! ps . would you be intrested in selling your underseat sub?

Not at the moment I'm afraid think it's a kenwood one actually has a wired remote came with the car

What's the best method then? I have two speakers on the rear attached to almost like the roof? The plastic trim by the boot lid, and two tweeters in front on the pillar's

I take it I can just cut the Rear speaker outputs from the stereo wiring L&R and permanently join them to the converter box for the sub?

scotch lock are the worst as they dont work very well as the proven methods that are in the link, and have been used in the motor trade for many years!

I didn't think the standard Smart head unit had rear speaker outputs?

Id' do that, I'd take the sub out and just put the standard head unit back in,

the only thing that bothers me about the standard head unit is no input for an SD card or USB stick

There is definitely a way of connecting a sub to a standard head unit as Brabus made an underseat sub.

Try using something like this:

I think you can then connect that to the front speaker wires that you're using.

And that's good you're going for the standard headunit. It's actually quite good quality (it's the standard speakers that are shocking) and has built in crossovers for your tweeters. The main benefit is how it looks in the dash though. I bought my car with an aftermarket headunit and am really glad I swapped to an original one.

The standard headunit does just have 2 speaker outputs and 2 separate ones for the tweeters (there's no rear speak inputs). When you have a home theatre system, you're meant to have surround sound but for music people try and get a sound stage with the music in front of them. If you did want to keep the rear speakers though, you'd probably have to take the front 2 speaker wires off to an amp to power them all.
