    Re: Day time running lights & mhd

    I actually think the led ones are are better as they are more visible from further away - they are more intense (not brighter)

    Better = more visible/attention grabbing

    Drivers in the UK seem to be more and more unaware of what's going on....

    ....I nearly got mowed down on a pelican crossing the other day! The green man had come on and about 10 of us ambled across and a car doing only 25mph on a long straight road past the shopping centre just wet straight through the red light for the crossing!

    Even my size 9 cats in the rear door didn't make them stop - just kept their 25mph speed!!!!!

    Can you get personal DLRs ??

      are you saying by that that they're not daytime running lights?

      the whole point of drl's is so the front of the car is 'seen' given the amount of drivers on the road that just pull out without a care in the world...
      they are not daytime running they are side markers!

        NO, they are daytime running lights.

        "Depending on prevailing regulations and vehicle equipment, the daytime running light function may be implemented by functionally-specific lamps, by operating the low-beam headlamps or fog lamps at full or reduced intensity, by operating the high-beam headlamps at reduced intensity, or by steady-burning operation of the front turn signals."

        I have already enlightened you but you are being stubborn. Different manufacturers implement them differently. The cheapest way is to operate the dipped beams at full power otherwise they have to reduce the intensity of the main beam, have dedicated DRLs or fit fog lights as standard. In America they have had the side markers (indicators to you) on constantly for years axting as DRLs, when they indicate, they flash off.

        The only reason Volvo have the front and rear lights come on is because the DRLs are a cheap bodge job. All they did was bypass the light switch and power it from an ignition switched live, therefore all the lights come on, not just the front ones that are required as DRLs. Cheap!

            Re: Day time running lights & mhd

            When we visited Sweden in the early 90's - 24hr ferry to Gothenburg then a drive up country - we had to always remember to manually switch on our sidelights everytime

            Trouble with drls is that when everyone has them, people start to ignore them again and pull out in front of people - if you can't see a huge 1 tonne lump of metal heading towards you, get off the road - haha!

                doesn't always work though plus if you are going to be force to have something on your car, it might as well look good.
