  • Who has tyre weld / a spare

Dont know how to make this a proper poll but was wondering what means of a spare people have.

    1. Breakdown cover
    2. Smart trye weld
    3. Holts Tyre weld
    4. Spare wheel
    5. None

Ive only got RAC breakdown cover but was thinking about buying a can of Holts tyre weld.
Has any one used the repairs or had non-smart breakdown cover come out to a puncture?

I have AA Homestart & Relay membership, although I did take it out prior to Smart ownership.

As for the Smart, Basil has Ultra Seal in his tyres, just in case! £40 quid well spent, if only for peace of mind.

I have smart assist, but never used it when I got a 4 inch screw in a tyre 2 weeks ago, just stuck the screw back into it till I could get it fixed!

Ive put "Ultra Seal" in my fronts.Gives a bit if peace of mind. You put it in before a puncture or cut happens and it seals immediatly.
Doesnt ruin the tyre as it can be washed out if the tyre needs a plug. The company has been going for yonks as a life saver for motorcycles.

I've got Tyre Safe in my Tyres
It also is puncture prevention system

                1. It is a permanent repair
                2. Does not upset wheel balance
                3. will last the legal life of a tyre
                4. is not affected by extremes in temperature
                5. works on all tyre and wheel types

Although i have had it in my last couple of cars i am not aware of it been there, so i don't know if it works
This may sound strange but you just put it in and forget about it

My passion (second hand) came without ANY of the tools under the passenger foot well! No tow hoom, no jack, no nothing! You cant use tyre weld without first jacking the car, then reinflating after!

I'll have to see if the bits are available from the parts dept. Probably wont be cheap!

Ultra seal costs about £25:00 a bottle enough to do two fronts. Bit of a pig to put in as you have to squeeze the bottle to injct it into the valve. Having learnt from many applications on the Harleys ---take out the schrider let out the air--attach the bottle and squeeze as much as you can in-- take off the bottlle and inject a little air in to clear the valve seat--then re-attach and do it again -- repeat till the right amount is in.--if you try and put the correct amount in in one go youll blow off the connection as you are trying to inflate the tyre with the stuff by hand. Sounds logical but believe me its easier in three or four applications.
                          As for IMBAlance.
This occurs only for the first 4-5 mls whislt the Ultra seal spreads around the inner surface.
Whether it happens after a prolonged lay up of weeks I dont know as mine is on the road every day. Once distributed there is no imbalance even at high speed. (70-80mph) is fast enough for me dont know if you consider that high speed St George. hope this helps
