I think films never do the books justice, this is why the discworld books haven't made the big screen yet. They tried it with cartoon style characters but the fans were divided as to the way the characters should look and sound because each individual sees something different in their mind.

The Bromeliad trilogy is being made as an animation, but it will probably be slated by the fans.

I would love to see Good Omens made into live action.

It's funny to see so many people on here with the same taste. I have books by most of the authors mentioned.

Tolkien LOTR was the first book I ever read in Swedish. That and the hobbit are books I've reread many times though I prefer the original English versions rather than translations.

I think I have all of the Terry Pratchett books and yes Night Watch was excellent. Don't forget Good Omens which he did with Neil Gamen though. Excellent and really funny. Neil Gamens American Gods is also fun.

Been through a wide range of fantasy but I also love detective novels especially old Dorothy Sayers and I'm now getting into Agatha Christie. But Colin Dexter, PD James and Ruth Rendell all get a look in as well.

Some of Stephen Kings books from the nineties have been really different and I've really enjoyed them.

Have to say that I have enjoyed the Harry Potter books but went to sleep in the movies.

Douglas Adams is so brilliantly funny it's just in a class of its own. What a pity he passed away so early. (Don't forget world towel day in his honour though!)

So long and thanks for all the fish!

avid reader and read most of the authors mentioned above.

read 'the da vinci code' by dan browne a couple of months ago, and consider it the best book i have ever read. picked up three or four new books (two by wilbur smith) and failed to connect. got another dan browne book 'deception point' and it is just as good as the last one.

he has a superb easy to read style, and the depth of research is superb.

Strange but fun in the true Adams spirit.

Seems they even have towel day over here!

                    Pratchett Films?

Reason there hasnt been one is simple. Terry wont let one be made until hes sure. There was an interview with him about it a while back and he was quite firm in the fact that all Holyeood wanted to do with books was own the rights. He's not interested in that and would prefer creative control.

The only reason hes letting the Bromeliad trilogy be made is whos making it. Dreamworks.

Talking about the deal he was quoted as saying
"I liked Chicken Run and Galaxy Quest, and you've got to be impressed when someone from DreamWorks phones up from Hollywood one night and turns up for lunch in Wiltshire, England the very next day."

ps. I think Night watch is TP's best book by far.

Nailing down the Terry P's best book is a very difficult task for me, I have really enjoyed an aweful lot of his works, it's almost as if he is looking at history through a cracked prism, and sees things in a very different light.

A great author with a a fantastic sense of humour.

Please try Jingo again. . . It is one of the best endings of any books.

The pace just goes mental, from the Patrician, Lenord, Nobby & colon in the "boat that goes under the waves", to Corpral Carrots arrest of both armies (seriously), and the football match (yet again between both armies, "Were winning on fouls").

The start is like alot of his books though, bit slow to get running. But well worth it in the end.

I find The 5th elephant to be his hardest book to get into, or The truth. So I guess its each to their own.
