Where is the Engine Number on fortwo?

Does anyone know where the engine number is located on the smart for two?

It is a 14 digit number.

People mistakenly think that it is the two numbers located just below the oil filler cap, but they are just a part number.

Any help (especially photos) would be greatly appreciated.

There isn't one..... there was, it was a paper label that probably departed the engine before the boat from the factory!

If you email/PM me (address in profile) your full VIN, I'll have a look on EPC and check the datacard to get your engine number. Can't help with a photo though.

Doesn't it make up part of the chassis number like a Ford? Chassis number is on the floor pan in front of the battery tray.

Assuming we are talking 450 fortwo:
The engine number is located on the left in front of the trottle housing, just under the termostate. It is very difficult to see/read as it is laser etched and not stamped in the metal. If you clean the area and use a good torch you should be able to find it. Unclipping the plastic line for the brake servo helps the view.

So basically, you can't see it when the engine is in the car? there's no way you'd see down there.

That's obviously why there was a paper label too..

Ok.. I understand. Maybe could be make fotos this type (450) our website? Like linked type pics (front view look, VIN look, Engine Number look etc.). This very important for me.

The full engine number is not etched on the block.
As an example:
The number of my engine is: 160 921 40648354 (the 6 first are engine type). Only the last 7 digits are on the block: 0648345
In addition to this there is another row of info: 15 75404
I have no idea what the latter is. Both rows are upside down as seen from the rear of the car.
Like I said earlier the marking is laser etched and as such very shallow.
Since your engine is painted, I doubt that you would have a chance to find the original number. Having said so, the number that you have found is pretty close to the good location.
I suggest you call a smart dealer with your VIN-number. It will only take him a few minutes to look up the engine number from the EPC.
You can then compare to your marking.
