  • fitting a brabus exhaust

    hi all

my first post and as always a question

    i have a 2001 first gen smart 4/2

i want to fit a brabus exhaust on to the car but the turbo is the 600cc not the later brabus type so it wont fit i do have a spare old exhaust and was thinking about cutting and welding the one pipe onto the brabus exhaust has anyone else done this?

    cheers :newbie:

correct me if im wrong but isnt the reason why it wont fit because it needs a bolt in the lamba sensor hole?

      Re: fitting a brabus exhaust

the flange where the manifold fits to is slightly bigger by about 2mm and the metal clamp/collar locating holes is wider also by 2mm

the hole in the exhaust has a sensor in it so it is already blocked

right so grind down or crush the flange 2mm and drill the holes out a little and see how it goes

oxo - you are right. The downpipe of the exhaust is slightly wider on the Brabus exhaust than the standard. Therefore, it will not bolt to the standard turbo. For a 600cc turbo, you will have to modify the downpipe. There is no point tring to fit a 60kW 698cc turbo.

Starkie - the difference in quanities of lambda sensors won't make a difference - it's the phyical nuts'n bolts that's the problem!

            Re: fitting a brabus exhaust

i thought so, tried it on a spare turbo i have here its just out

is the downpipe stainless like the exhaust or mild steel difficult to tell

i will cut both off and bolt together, i think i will overlap the pipe and self tap a screw into it to hold rather than tack welding (fried ECU is not tasty) before welding it off the the car

theres me all eager thinking straight bolt on job:censor:

I think it's mild steel mate, or at the very least it's low grade stainless.
They were always marketed as stainless, but all seem to attract surface rust (unless protected).

which come to mention it, it's probably worth you doing before you finally fit it.

In retrospect, I suppose "supercalafragalisticexpialadocious" wasn't a great "safe word..."
