When I went to view the car they give me the owners number which I rang and she came to the garage. The people at the garage did not intervene or give me any sales pitch as it was just the seller with myself and my wife. I phoned the seller tonight and she said the car has always made that noise and that it is the turbo which can even be heard outside of the car itself and she has had the car since april last year.

Well I doubt she'd say otherwise, she's the one trying to flog you the thing!
I think we've established where the noise is coming from, (but again, get someone to verify this) - check it over mechanically as thoroughly as you are able, drive it again and then make your own judgement call on whether you want to make an offer - then do an HPI (£20) before parting with any hard-earned.

correct, it wasn't standard (far from it), and it's not needed.

Okie Dokie.
Well, it does sound like it's a dump valve, so you pay your money, you take the chance.
incidentally you can remove the dump valve so it doesn't make that noise if you so wish.

hmmm, thats very kind of the garage
Are you able to speak to the girl at all? it does sniff a bit of a warranty dodge to me - you will get (as good as) no consumer protection in a private sale.
Since I am literally in the process of looking for cars at the moment I've encountered this a couple of times.
Personally, I'd look elsewhere.

The car is been sold by a private seller.apparently she bought the car from the garage originally and must know the people at the garage.she is now selling it privately but the garage is allowing her to sell it on their forecourt.windscreen price was £2895 but she is willing to take £2300.

vent to air blow off valve.
a dump valve.
just make sure you get that warranty, as dump valves cause many a debate

Sorry, Vent-To-Atmosphere (as opposed to recirc) Blow-Off-Valve (or dump valve)

Yes it does sound a bit like the noise on the you tube clip. On the clip it sounded like the noise happened when the gear was been changed.

Yes it will happen whilst changing gear, it will also happen if you let go of the throttle whilst accelerating. Sounds like a VTA BOV is fitted, take someone knowledgeable back with you for a 2nd look to ensure this is the case.
