  • Two hundred and eighty two pounds!

That's how much Smart of Beaconsfield have just quoted for an Oil Plus service on a 12 months old 451 with under 6,500 miles on the clock.

I have been quoted much less elsewhere - only problem being I need SoB to do a warranty repair to the rear wash wipe so I'll be visiting them anyway.

What should I do first? Repair or third party service.

Take it to them for the warranty , and to one of the independents for a service

third party service 1st, so you can rub their noses in it when you pick it up.
      Don't tell them 'til then

Thats ridiculous. Mind you its about the same as what VW want for a similar service on my Jetta

It's more than VW wanted for my Polo when they thought it was a 60,000 service and double what VW charged ultimately - the Polo is on Longlife servicing so only needed a fluids and inspection service unless indicated otherwise which is very similar to Oil plus!

Get it done for about half the price at an 'indie' (make sure they stamp the service book)....and just use the stealer for any warranty work!

Provided the correct parts etc are used, you can get it serviced anywhere....without invalidating the warranty!

I just need to work out who - I have two quotes - one at about half of the other which was under half the SoB quote anyway!

I've just paid £280 for the big service on my Grand Vitara, and that is a big 4x4 and that included an optional brake fluid change, so that is daylight robbery, my first service on the roadster from the main stealers was £99 by comparison.
