  • West Midlands garage

    Hi,
Can anyone recommend a garage in the West Midlands area?
Ideally near Warwick, but am willing to travel further.
    Thanks.

Sadly, now that Richard has closed I think your choice is fairly limited!

sRu at Nottingham or Al's at Heanor (Derby) are probably the closest people used to dealing with smarts.....or if you wanna travel south, wellsmart are the other side of Bristol (but have a very good rep.!!)

There may be some local garages that deal with servicing smarts on an 'occassional' basis....but you have to be very careful to make sure they know what they are doing!

IIRC BIG Performance had some contact up there.

        Not really!!

If you're after a general service your choices are mainly:

        a) Take it to merc and make sure they do all 6 plugs

        b) Do it yourself

        c) Take it to a local garage but give them specific instructions as to how to do it!!

        d) Travel to one of the indies but there aren't many decent ones within 60 miles either!

Thanks for the advice so far.
I'm basically after a garage to do a MoT, but it's possible it will need some work to pass, so I wanted to take it somewhere that is familiar with Smart cars.
I might just try a local general garage that's recommended by friends.

            What sort of work??

If you look here you can see what they'll be testing for and do a couple of checks yourself beforehand.

              Thanks for the link.

I do all the servicing myself, or with the help of friends, so I know the basics are all OK, but I've never checked the suspension joints and I'm wondering if the exhaust is ever so slightly blowing......maybe I'm just being paranoid.

I passed my MOT needing new shocks so unless you can really tell it needs new from the drive, I wouldn't worry about it.

                Standard exhaust??

For MOT, I just use the local garage down the road now.......get to know the people that own/run your local place and you'll get far more 'co-operation' from them when it comes to MOT time, should there be any minor problems?

The tester at my local, has admitted that he loves smarts (which probably helps!)....but we have found that they are much more likely to spend a few mins getting things right, like emissions etc, rather than instantly write you a 'fail'!
Both mine & PJ's cars recently sailed through test with no problems!!!
