Door Handle Removal

Hello all,

I was after a little help. The drivers door on my 56 plate Fortwo has stopped opening from the outside. I have been surfing the net looking for a way to remove the door handle to see what has either come off or broken on the inside of the handle.

I have seen loads of different videos on how to remove the door handles but none of them apply to mine. On the inside of the door there is 1 screw and thats all. I have seen videos where there is 2 screws on the inside of the door and also seen videos where there is a plastic clip.

Anyone able to help me?

It's probably the cable but here's a guide to removing the handle to check....

yeah, use that guide, but if you look carefully at the handle when it's in the 'up' position, look underneath it and you might find the cable has 'looped' and isn't being pushed back into the guides properly.
this will be as a result of rather than a cause of the cable needing lubricating.

That guide worked a treat I wasn't sure how hard to pull the handle when trying to remove it, when there was a little resistance I didn't want to snap anything.

I have just had the handle off and can confirm the cable has snapped. How much is it gonna cost to get this replaced? Would you guys advise doing it myself or getting a mechanic to do it?

do it yourself mate, I think the cable can be sourced separately for pence, if not then I think the handle/cable assembly is about £20 - don't quote me on that, it's just a figure I've seen banded about on here.
Either phone up your dealer, or call someone like wellsmart or smartsrus.

I have spoken to Smart Manchester and they said the cable comes with the handle and they are selling them for £33.47.

Does that sound right or a little expensive?
