- as a newbie to the site I asked a couple of weeks ago about good alternatives to Smart Newcastle upon Tyne (who were less than helpful when I called in to see them...) for my '05 Smart FourTwo cabrio.
Long story short, but I happened across a fellow member who posts on here as 'Zerocool' .It turns out that Glynn (sorry to 'blow your cover' there !) is based in Ulverston at the edge of the Lakes;it's a couple of hours away from me , but a pleasant enough drive :p
Anyway, after sorting out the details, I drove over to Glynn's workshop yesterday where I had a basic 'C' service done (supplied my own plugs, filter and oil with advice from Glynn) , a new breather pipe fitted,a new, larger TIK pipe added and a sump with oil drain plug installed. In addition, having finally got hold of a Roadster paddle shift wheel (thanks to Dennis at 'Smart Parts Direct') Glynn progrmmed in the TAN code for the wheel and the Rev. counter I fitted a while back.
A pleasant lunch in the pub in Ulverston and the job was done in a couple of hours. The cost was very reasonable (even factoring in my petrol for the journey) and Glynn was extremely knowledgeable and friendly - he even 'taxi'ed me back from town in his Hummer ( yes, he runs a Smart and a Hummer - talk about 'chalk and cheese ') :p
It turns out that Glynn is a Merc. trained Master tech. and really knows his stuff. He had a couple of Fourtwos in for engine rebuilds and his own (very smart) Roadster parked up.He also has the kosher Merc. 'Star' system for TAN codes and programming.
I must stress that I'm not being paid or coerced to write this;I'm just genuinely chuffed with some really good service. I'm sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place ( administrator can you move it if approprite ?
) but I feel it is worth letting others know about it;I would certainly have welcomed the info. when I was getting the runaround from the official Smart dealerhip....
Glynn has a web site at -
-so check him out there or on here ;I don't think you will be dissapointed.
