  • Longer Wheel Bolts ?

I am looking to fit some wheel spacers on my Fortwo :silvertri

Unfortunately his current wheelbolts are a tad too short to use with the wheel spacers.

Rims are Kahn-rsr 15inch, and spacers are only 5mm.

Do you have any suggestions as to what length I should be looking to use ?

I am a divvo sometimes.........

if you get eibach spacers they usually (depending if you bought the right ones) bolt onto the hub, and then the wheels bolt onto the spacers.

Apparently you should avoid using longer bolts where you can.

        :agree:

Though with 5mm(??) spacers you will comfortably get away with it

          Re: Longer Wheel Bolts ?

          Hi, thanks for the replies.

The spacers were given to me by my Dad....probably ancient

          No spacers are supplied.
My car has standard bolts at present, and McGuard security bolts.

When we measured them against the kahns it appeared that only 2mm of thread would be inside the rear wheel (the bearing I think it's called)

Am I just being a bit if a twit ?

I have seen longer locking bolts. Maybe a set of those along with 2 of your OEM bolts per wheel will give further peace of mind...

I would have thought that you should have 3 or 4 threads engaged as a minimum. 2mm of thread is a bit on the scary side for me. I would talk to one of the Indies to see if they can supply extra length bolts. I am sure I have seen them on a website somewhere, but I can't find them now.

Wellsmart sell 15mm spacers and longer bolts to go with them, so might well be able to help you here.

The Eibach spacers only bolt to the hub for models 25mm and up, for simple physical reasons (e.g. space for the bolt head to go) that should be fairly obvious. 20mm and down are long-bolt-through.

Yes Sir, this is completely correct for Eibach and they are available through WellSmart.
A reletively new option also available through WellSmart, but from a different manufacturer is a Bolt-Trough 25mm Kit. I personally don't like such long bolts, and then you also have the problem of finding super long Anti Theft bolts to go with it, so in the end I don't think you save anything by taking this route. Here's the link:

The rule of thumb is that the amount of thread that should engage is 1.5 times the diameter of the bolt.

Are you using the standard Smart bolts with the Kahn wheels?
If so this is a no-no as the smart bolts have rounded seats & the Kahn wheels have taper seats.
In my mind the bolts should pass through the hub thread by one extra thread, if that makes sense.

Check out Mercedes 'E' class wheel bolts - I am told that they have the same radiused seat and are available in different lengths.... They will have 17mm heads, so you'll need a new socket to fit them.

You do not need spacers with khan 15" on smart 450
